Those feelgood fuzzies from Vladimir Guerrero's(notes) series sealer in Boston have been erased by two ugly performances in New York and now everyone is wondering why Mike Scioscia is still stubbornly penciling him in for the Angels cleanup spot. It's a great question, seeing as how Guerrero just went 1-for-7 and left eight runners on base during Saturday's 13-inning Game 2 loss to the Yankees.But Scioscia is still planning to bat Guerrero fourth in ALCS Game 3 this afternoon and says that because the rest of his lineup is also struggling, there are no obvious choices to serve as a cleanup spark plug for the Angels' impotent offense. From Scioscia's pregame press conference today: "If there was some pieces to really reshuffle some guys that were really killing the ball ... of course we'd consider it. That's not the case right now. I think whenever you start swinging the bat well and you have some options, you would consider it. (But) right now ...
