ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Kyle Seager snapped a career-worst 0-for-21 slump with a go-ahead two-run homer and the Seattle Mariners beat the AL West-leading Texas Rangers 3-1 on Friday night. Hisashi Iwakuma (11-6) struck out eight and allowed one run in seven innings. Derek Holland pitched two-hit ball with six strikeouts over seven scoreless innings for Texas before Neal Cotts (4-2), whose 0.93 ERA was the lowest among American League relievers, walked Nick Franklin. Seager then lined a shot into the Rangers bullpen in right-center field, his 18th homer of the season but first in 13 games. Justin Smoak homered in the ninth for Seattle, which won for only the seventh time in 19 games.

Mariners rally behind Seager’s HR, beat Texas 3-1

One of the best parts about Kyle Seager being in a career-worst slump was that nobody seemed to realize it. Seager’s offensive numbers were still some of the Mariners’ best his manager had no idea about the downturn and even the player himself was oblivious to it all. It wasn’t until after his two-run eighth-inning homer and a solo shot in the ninth by Justin Smoak sealed...

Report: Manny Ramirez Not Retiring

Tuesday, the Texas Rangers released Manny Ramirez.  But don't shed one tear, America, this might not be the end for the twelve-time All-Star. According to Hector Cruz of ESPN Deportes, Ramirez will not retire and will, apparently, look to hook up with another big league team.  Sure, it's unlikely that he lands a job, but, hey...none of us thought the Rangers would take...

Rangers haven't made decision on Berkman

ARLINGTON, Texas Lance Berkman was back in the Texas Rangers clubhouse after four rehab games but that doesn't mean he's ready to join the club. Berkman, who is on the disabled list because of his left hip and right knee, wasn't activated Friday and when and if that happens remains to be seen. Berkman and the club have also talked about the possibility of waiting until...

Rangers uncertain if Ogando makes Monday start

ARLINGTON, Texas Texas right-hander Alexi Ogando's scheduled start Monday is in jeopardy after a CT scan on his right shoulder relieves some inflammation around a nerve. Ogando is now taking medication for the inflammation and hasn't been ruled out for Monday, but it's certainly a possibility. "We haven't ruled him out but I think it's heading that way...

Seager hits RBI double in 9th, Mariners top Texas 4-3

Kyle Seager hit an RBI double with two outs in the ninth inning Sunday lifting the Seattle Mariners over the Texas Rangers 4-3. The Mariners took two of three from AL West-leading Texas. Rangers' Ogando likely to miss next start

Right-hander Alexi Ogando likely will miss his next start for the Texas Rangers because of inflammation around a nerve in his right shoulder. General manager Jon Daniels said Friday that Ogando is on medication that has eased some of the symptoms. But the pitcher could also have an injection that would keep him from pitching Monday against Houston. Ogando had a CT scan on Wednesday...

Bottom of Rangers' lineup produces seven runs in rout

ARLINGTON, Texas It takes a village to beat a pitcher like Felix Hernandez. In baseball terms, that means contributions from up and down the lineup, which is exactly what the Rangers got in Saturday's 15-3 win against the Seattle ace. Specifically, the Rangers got a whopping five RBI from the number nine spot in the order shared by David Murphy and Craig Gentry. Add in...

Rangers place Ogando on DL again

The Texas Rangers are putting right-hander Alexi Ogando on the disabled list for the third time this season. Texas made the move before Tuesday night's game, three days after Ogando (5-4) had an injection because of an inflamed nerve in his right shoulder. The DL stint is retroactive to Aug. 14, the day after Ogando's last start. Left-hander Travis Blackley was selected...

Yoervis Medina: Unsung Bullpen Hero

Right-hander Yoervis Medina has meticulously worked his way through trouble all season and he continues to reward the Mariners for their patience with him.

MMO Mailbag: Rangers Shortstop Elvis Andrus Clears Waivers

Hey Joe, Just read today that Elvis Andrus had cleared waivers. As you posted yesterday and in the past, a glaring hole that needs to be filled going forward is a legitimate everyday shortstop. I believe you also mentioned his name along with Jurickson Profar as well. Just a couple of comments. If indeed he did clear waivers, the Mets should obviously explore what it would take...

Leaping Lepidopteras! Moth flies into A.J. Pierzynski’s mask (video)

During Wednesday evening’s tilt between the Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Rangers catcher had the unfortunate experience of a moth flying into his mask as he was seated behind the plate. Actually, bugs buzzing around ballplayers isn’t an uncommon occurrence, nor should it be surprising. Anyone who has been to […]The post Leaping Lepidopteras...

The AL West-leading Rangers, who have won 15 of 18 games, finished with a season high in runs after an eight-run eighth in which Profar had another RBI single. Profar had...

Mariners-Rangers Preview

Following his team's dreadful stretch at the plate in July, Adrian Beltre has been on a tear that's helped the Texas Rangers return to the top of the AL West. If Beltre can match his performance from the last time he faced Hisashi Iwakuma, the Rangers certainly stand a better chance of continuing their run Friday night against the visiting Seattle Mariners. After averaging...
