After starting off the week by rallying with back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning to down the Blue Jays 6-5, the Mariners dropped their next five games. It was the worst stretch for Seattle this month, and their worst week since in the midst of their since losing seventeen in a row in July. This week was a step back for Seattle, but they showed some life in Tampa after getting thumped twice in a row at home by the Blue Jays. Seattle had third place in the A.L. West after Monday’s win but slid back into the cellar with the rest of the week. Seattle is now 53-72, three games behind Oakland for third place.
Player of the Week:Mike Carp. It isn’t often we highlight offensive Mariner players, but Carp definitely deserves it. Carp started the week with a bang hitting two home runs, including the game tying home run, in a 6-5 win over Toronto on Monday.
