Found November 24, 2008 on Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
The player himself told El Caribe that the Athletics are offering him a deal of 48 million and four years plus incentives that could round up 50 million.

"The offer from the Athletics and the New York Mets looks tempting, but everything we decide then that I meet with my lawyer, because there are several factors that we have to evaluate, but in general all the offers that we are doing are important and we want to make a decision well thought out, "said Furcal.

Another team that offered an undisclosed bid for the player is that of the New York Mets, who got into the globe looking for the native of Loma de Cabrera play around with the Mets second cushion.

Other teams who have shown interest in acquiring the services of the Dominican Republic is that of the Dodgers, with whom he has just an exhausting four-year contract for more than fifty million dollars.

Similarly the San Francisco Giants is another of the sets that have been trying to free agency in the Dominican Republic.

So, what does this mean for Luis Castillo if the Mets have made a offer to Rafael Furcal. I hope we can expect a trade that involves Javier Vazquez.

Update: 2:21 PM:

Jon Heyman's latest says the Mets have not made an offer to Rafael Furcal, In fact, one person familiar with the Mets dealings said, flat out, "No offer has been made.''

Beyond that, Mets people agreed that they'd have to find a new team for Luis Castillo, their unwanted second baseman, before moving on to finding Castillo's replacement. And even if they did accomplish what appears to be the Herculean task of moving Castillo (for instance, the White Sox don't want Castillo for pitcher Javier Vazquez), they'd be much more inclined to play for free agent Orlando Hudson than for Furcal.

Update: 2:33 PM:

ESPN Radio says the Mets never made an offer to Furcal as their source confirms it. Also they say, a source says that second baseman Orlando Hudson's first choice is to be a Met.

The Mets would likely have to trade Luis Castillo before signing Hudson.
