Indians Baseball Insider:
Chicago White Sox
Player of the Game: Ubaldo Jimenez (8 1/3 innings, 8 hits, 1 ER, 1 BB / 8 SO)
Another game on Chicago’s Southside, and another win for your Cleveland Indians.
After a scoreless tie between both club’s through three innings, the Tribe offense unleashed two homers for a five run fourth to give them the lead they would never surrender. Indians bats roughed up White Sox right-hander Andre Rienzo for five runs on seven hits in just four innings.
Tribe starter Ubaldo Jimenez (12-9, 3.49 ERA) took a shutout in the ninth inning, and pulled away with his best start as a member of the Indians.
The team picks up its 80th victory of the year, their most since 2011.
Big U stellar, racks up another Big W
I said it two weeks ago right after Justin Masterson pulled his left oblique, if the Tribe can grab a wild card spot, Jimenez should pitch the one game wild card playoff. In fact if the last two weeks of the regular season go as planned, Jimenez will be scheduled to start that game.
BEST OF MAXIM
Back in late June, I wrote about how Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez had finally been showing some promise as a member of the Tribe’s starting rotation. Since the date of the article’s publication (June 21st), Jimenez has only gotten stronger – much stronger, in fact.
Jimenez entered the month of June with a dismal 5.57 ERA, but exited with a more respectable...
Some news, notes and thoughts from my Indians notebook…
The restoration of Tomlin
It was great to see right-hander Josh Tomlin back on the mound on Thursday night. He last appeared in a game on August 12th of last season before having his season end with an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery, and he looked to be in midseason form throwing two shutout innings allowing...
Ubaldo Jimenez pitched 8 1-3 strong innings and Asdrubal Cabrera and Lonnie Chisenhall homered to lead Cleveland to an 8-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night that helped the Indians keep pace in the Al wild-card race.
Cabrera hit a two-run homer and Lonnie Chisenhall added a three-run shot in a five-run fourth inning that powered the Indians to their 11th straight...
In my usual half-rapid fire, half-prose form, I’m back with another edition of The Boots. For those unfamiliar with this feature, I assign loosely defined “Boot Up” or “Boot Down” votes to trending sports topics. Today, I’m all about Indians optimism.
Boot Up: Wild Card odds – With a record 11th straight win over the White Sox on Saturday night, the Indians have catapulted...
Danny Salazar and Ryan Raburn helped the Cleveland Indians keep pace in the American League wild-card playoff race.
The Cleveland bullpen also played a role, too.
Salazar struck out nine in 3 2-3 innings, Raburn hit an RBI double in the fifth, and the Indians earned a 3-1 win Friday over the Chicago White Sox.
Cleveland defeated Chicago for the 10th consecutive time this season...
Nick Swisher's power surge has been a boost for Cleveland as the Indians try for their first postseason berth since 2007.
Swisher homered from both sides of the plate for the 13th time during the Indians' 7-1 win against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday night. Swisher tied the major league record set by former New York Yankees teammate Mark Teixeira, and the Indians pulled...
Sometime next season the Indians are going to take Danny Salazar out of the barn and let him run free. Right now the organization's show pony is allowed to merely paw the ground snort and rear back and shake his hooves at the heavens before having a blanket thrown over him and being led back to the barn.
When that day comes it should be something to see.
The Indians in the...
Player of the Game
The Indians had three hitters provide most of the offense today, but Nick Swisher was the best of the best. He hit two solo home runs to lead off innings, giving him a team leading 20 on the year. This is Swisher's ninth straight season of at least 20 home runs and was his 13th game with one home run from each side of the plate, tying the Major League record...
Chris Sale has had a forgettable year when pitching against the Cleveland Indians.
Sale was knocked around for six runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings during a rain-delayed 7-1 loss for the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, dropping to 0-4 with an 8.61 ERA against Cleveland.
''They roll out of a lot of righties,'' Sale said. ''When someone has your number,...
1. Clint Frazier - CF - AZL Indians
The next coming of Rusty Staub, Frazier has been on fire since joining the Arizona League Indians, immediately taking over the integral roles of center fielder and lead off hitter. Despite joining the team a week late, he still ended up leading in HR (5), RBI (28), hits (51) and triples (5). He has taken off faster than any other player I'...
A series sweep against Chicago has placed the Indians in an extremely good position to move into first in the Wild Card race, a feat they could accomplish with a good series against Kansas City. The two Wild Card leaders will be playing each other in a four game series while the Indians are taking on Royals. This provides an amazing opportunity, not only to knock the Royals from...
Extending their winning streak would put the Cleveland Indians in playoff position.
The Kansas City Royals have a lot more work to do.
Nick Swisher and the Indians attempt to grab the AL's second wild-card spot Monday night and further damage the Royals' chances in the opener of a three-game series with major postseason implications.
Cleveland (81-68) is one-half game...
Last week I broke the golden fantasy “expert” rule: Don’t bore people by talking about your own league or by talking about about your personal transactions.Well you know what, I am on cloud nine right now over my Ubaldo Jimenez play this week (15.1 IP, 18 K and 2 wins) and if you want to continue deep into the playoffs (like me) then do yourself a favor and continue to follow...
