WHAT ARE MARLINS FANS TELLING YOU, BUD? The biggest problem I’ve had with Commissioner Bud Selig is he was an owner, but even after divesting himself of the Milwaukee Brewers, he remained an owner at heart. He’s a former owner paid by the owners, so, where do his loyalties lie? It will never happen without government intervention, but the best way for baseball to be run is have the commissioner paid equally by the owners and players association, with another percentage from the umpire’s union. That formula should eliminate the perception of partiality. As commissioner, Bud Selig has the authority to exercise his “best interest in baseball,’’ clause, which permits him to act in the best interest of the sport regardless of whom it impacts. Selig has that opportunity now that he’s reviewing the Marlins-Blue Jays trade, which all but gutted the Miami franchise. Miami, a team many projected to compete for a wild-card in 2012, had a disappointing season in its first in their new ballpark,...

Miami mayor protests trade

The mayor of Miami wrote a letter to MLB commissioner Bud Selig in protest of the trade agreed to by the Marlins and Blue Jays.

Tom Koehler’s Pitch For Relief

I live in New York and I experienced Hurricane Sandy albeit at a much lesser degree than many other people in the area.   There is a lot of destruction in the Northeast and it will take a long time to rebuild.  Every little bit helps and Marlins’ pitcher Tom Koehler is doing his part to help out.    Koehler has organized a pair of baseball clinics to take place in December...

Jeffrey Loria Lies to Florida Taxpayers, Destroys Montreal Expos in Taiwanese Animation of Marlins’ Big Trade (Video)

The Miami Marlins’ blockbuster trade with the Toronto Blue Jays has been the cause of much outrage, and most of it has focused on Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria. Obviously, the next step of that outrage is to animate it. The good folks over at Next Media Animations got right on that, as the Taiwanese animation of the deal certainly lives up to expectations. In it, Loria is shown destroying...

Marlins Agreement to Spend Revenue-Sharing Funds on Player Salaries Expired Just Before Mega-Trade

The Marlins and owner Jeffrey Loria were already on baseball’s hot seat, and the veritable fish tank’s water may soon get even hotter. Back in 2009 and 2010 the Major League Baseball Players Association was very unhappy with the Marlins. In the days of revenue sharing among MLB teams, the Marlins, by all outward appearances, had continued to pocket that money rather than spend...

Chuck Hernandez hired as Marlins pitching coach

Chuck Hernandez has been hired as pitching coach for the Miami Marlins and new manager Mike Redmond. The Marlins also announced the hiring of Rob Leary as bench coach Friday. Hernandez spent the past two years as an assistant coach at the University of South Florida. He was pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers in 2006-08 and for Tampa Bay in 2004-05, and pitched in the minor leagues...

Your Morning Dump...where the Sox should call Miami for Stanton

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. If the Red Sox, who begin what they hope will be an accelerated rebuilding with deep pockets and a deep farm system, want to see what else the Marlins might sell, here's an easy hypothetical that is probably...

Miami Marlins trade whole team to Toronto

And the animators in the Far East are all over the story, as you would hope.

Miami Marlins Fire Sale: Jose Reyes And Mark Buehrle Have No One To Blame But Themselves

Following the latest Miami Marlins fire sale that will send Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson, John Buck and Emilio Bonfacio to the Toronto Blue Jays in yet another despicable move by team owner Jeffrey Loria, a couple of the players are speaking out and saying that management lied to them. Reyes and Beuhrle are saying that the Marlins gave them verbal guarantees that they would...

Today's Essay Assignment: In 100 words or less, describe the reaction across baseball yesterday if it had been the Yankees instead of the Blue Jays who cut the deal with Miami

My entry:For starters, zombie Bowie Kuhn claws his way up from the grave - (He's dead, right?) - and steals Bud Selig's hairpiece, holding it for ransom unless Selig nullifies the deal. Peter Gammons throws himself off the street side of the Green Monster, bounces three times, and goes through Bill Buckner's legs, and at the funeral, the shamed Redsocks announce they...

Report: Marlins Agree To Deal With OF Juan Pierre

After dumping more than half of their players in a pathetic attempt to rebuild their sh***y team, the Miami Marlins have reportedly made an acquisition to make up for it. According to Sirius XM's Craig Mish, the Marlins have agreed to a contract with former Phillie Juan Pierre. Pierre, 35, signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies last off season, but played in the big leagues...

Considering fans wouldn’t go to Marlins Park if Miami resident Sofía Vergara stripped on the diamond, Jeffrey Loria was right to deal with the Toronto Blue Jays

Days after trading star shortstop Jose Reyes and standout pitchers Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle to the Toronto Blue Jays for a slew of prospects, the city of Miami remains wrongly outraged at Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria for conducting yet … Continue reading →
