The Miami Marlins picked up their 30th win of the season with a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.   The win kept Miami one game behind the first place Washington Nationals in the National League East.    The win also gives the Marlins a chance to keep their unbeaten streak in series alive if they win on Sunday.   The Marlins are 7-0-3 in their last ten series.

Ricky Nolasco went seven innings to earn his sixth win of the season.  Those six wins currently lead the Marlins’ staff as the franchise leader in wins continued to add to his record.   Nolasco allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking two.    The Phillies scored a run in each of the first three innings and then did not add another until the eighth.    Steve Cishek took over for Nolasco with runners at the corners and nobody out.   One run would come home to score but Cishek worked around the jam and struck two out to earn his sixth hold.  In the ninth, Heath Bell picked up his 11th save of the season with a scoreless inning.

Hanley Ramirez hit a pair of home runs, one in the fourth and one in the sixth — both off of Phillies’ starter Cole Hamels.    One of the blasts was a two run home run as Ramirez drove in three runs overall.    Justin Ruggiano making his first start as a Marlin doubled and knocked in a run in a 1-4 day.   Jose Reyes stole his 16th base of the year as he inched closer to Emilio Bonifacio’s team leading 20 swipes.

The Marlins will try and win the series on Sunday when they are scheduled to face Joe Blanton.   The Marlins’ scheduled starter is Carlos Zambrano.
