The A’s (59-42) will host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (47-52) for a four-game series starting tonight in Oakland.
Last weekend, Oakland lost the first two games out of the All-Star Break down in Anaheim before winning the finale 6-0 behind Bartolo Colon’s complete game shut out. Yesterday, Oakland rode a seventh-inning go-ahead home run from Coco Crisp (against former Athletic Travis Blackley) en route to a 4-3 win over the Houston Astros, securing a series victory.
Meanwhile, down in Anaheim, the Angels avoided being swept at the hands of the Minnesota Twins thanks to Jered Weaver, who pitched eight shutout innings in the Angels’ 1-0 win.
Heading into last weekend’s series between these two teams, the Angels were in dire straits. They needed to make a big impression against the A’s, who currently lead the A.L. West by three games over the Texas Rangers – but since the A’s pulled out the third game of the series, the Angels remained ten games back of first in the division.
