AJ Cassavell of MLB.com says outfielder Gregor Blanco is eager to make it happen with the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have a bunch of players that could be fighting for time in the outfield, and it could be a long shot for Blanco to make the team. It would be nice to see Blanco force the issue!   “He can play anywhere in the outfield,” said manager Bruce Bochy. Blanco was the MVP of the Venezuelan Winter League. He’s having a nice start with the bat early on this spring too. Blanco has shed 15 pounds this offseason, and feels stronger. His game is getting on base and making the pitchers think about him when he’s on the base paths. Blanco hit .283 in 2010 between the Braves and Royals. He did not play at the Major League level in 2011. “Be aggressive, that’s my game,” said Blanco. “Take advantage of the opposing team, and make him throw over more when I’m on base, so I can be more of a pain for them when I get on base.” What’s your thoughts on Blanco fighting for a roster spot? ...

Giants Have Some Hot Bats In The First Week Of Cactus League Games

It’s still very early in the Cactus League, but there is some good signs that this year might not be as much of an offensive struggle as it was in 2011. For starters Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez should be back and healthy. Lets take a look at some players that are off to a hot start in Arizona. Let’s start with Melky Cabrera. Cabrera is hitting .455 with 2 homers in his first...

Dan Runzler out 4-6 weeks with shoulder injury

A visit to renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews’ office in Gulf Breeze, Fla. yesterday by Dan Runzler confirmed that the Giants’ left-handed reliever has indeed aggravated his strained lat and it will take 4-6 weeks to heal. Runzler, who turns 27 on Mar. 30, originally injured the muscle on the last day of the 2011 season and was hoping it would heal on its own during...

Giants' Cain deserves ground-breaking contract

When Yadier Molina signed his 75 million extension, one rival agent called it a market correction, saying that too sizable a gap existed between the two largest contracts for catchers, Joe Mauer at 184 million and Victor Martinez at 50 million. Well, an even bigger market correction looms for right-handed starting pitchers, and the San Francisco Giants Matt Cain could be the one...

Angels scout kicked out of Giants workout

Angels scout Jeff Schugel was kicked out of a San Francisco Giants workout in Scottsdale Stadium on Wednesday morning, an incident that stunned and confused the 25-year veteran. "I got there early, and I was just doing my job, watching infield practice and grading arms," Schugel said. "The next thing you know, an usher told me I couldn't be there. I thought he...

Joe Panik Isn’t the Shortstop of the Future; This Isn’t Terrible

Troy Tulowitzkis don’t grow on trees. Jose Reyeseses can’t be made from a Promethean mold. JJ Hardys don’t get released by two teams and then blossom into elit- sorry Brewers and Twins fans, got a bit off track there. Point is, there aren’t a lot of quality big league shortstops in the known universe. Few can combine an above average bat with crisp glove skills and enough...

He’s in the team’s minor league spring training camp. Linden, 31, was a first-round draft pick by the Giants in 2001. Once considered a “can’t miss” prospect, Linden spent five years with the Giants before they finally gave up on him...

Posey, Sanchez return as Giants beat split Reds

Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez, two key Giants who missed most of last season because of injuries, returned to action in San Francisco's 6-3 Cactus League victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Posey, the 2010 NL Rookie of the Year, was behind the plate for the first two innings and he hit a flyout in his only at-bat. Sanchez, who played the entire game at designated hitter...

Determining Giant expectations

The Giants franchise has been one of the most accomplished organizations in the history of baseball. They lead all teams with the most Hall-of-Famers, have appeared in the playoffs 23 times and they have won the National League Pennant 21 of those 23 times. Along with the .538 winning percentage since 1883, the Giants have also won six World Series Championships in that span. After...

ST Notebook: Giants Beat Dodgers

Good day for the G-Men Tuesday. Riding strong offensive performances from Melky Cabrera and Brett Pill, the Giants beat the Dodgers 8-4.

The BP First Take: Thursday, March 8 by Daniel Rathman

There was not a whole lot of bad blood between the Giants and Angels coming out of the 2002 World Series, and a decade later, the wounds inflicted on this then-12-year-old fan have mostly healed. The sight of a rally monkey still makes me cringe, but there is no longer any internal debate as to which Los Angeles-area franchise I find less tolerable. Wednesday’s tiff between Angels...
