Thursday was a day off for the San Francisco Giants, but that didn’t stop them from extending their lead in the NL West to 7.5 games. The Dodgers are in a tailspin and lost another game while the Giants were enjoying their off day. The magic number for the Giants going into play today is 12 (combination of Giants wins and Dodgers losses).
Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com says the Giants have absolutely no internal options in their system to play second base next season. He points out that infielder Joe Panik (my Panik interview) will likely be ready in another year or two.
Baggarly says he’s been told that the Giants will make every effort to re-sign infielder Marco Scutaro.
“I would love to come back here,” Scutaro tells Baggarly. “I really love it here. There are great fans, it’s a great place to play. More important, it’s a place where you have a chance to win every year.”
