Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports says the San Francisco Giants chances of signing Matt Cain to a contract extension before Opening Day are rapidly diminishing. There is no deadline set for a contract to be complete, but both sides do not want the distraction during the season.
Cain will not give the Giants a hometown discount, and he shouldn’t! I think it’s time for the Giants to pony up and pay the man. Cain has posted 5-consecutive 200-innings campaigns in each of his last 5 seasons (2007-11).
Cain is a beast on the mound, continues to put up great numbers, and dominate his opponents. Losing Cain in the Giants rotation would be a HUGE loss.
The Giants will find a way to reach common grounds with Cain and get a deal done. They know how important he is to this team.
Do you think Cain will re-sign with the Giants, or test the free agent market?
