About the last thing any Phillies fan wants to hear right now is that one of the Fightins has a hip injury. After Chase Utley pushed through one last year and had off-season surgery, Brett Myers was lost for the rest of this season with a frayed labrum and some bone spurts, also requiring surgery. Hip labrum injuries are the new sports hernia it seems.

So when Shane Victorino had to come out of last night's game with a reported problem with his hip and lower back, we're all a little sensitive because the "H" word is involved. There's no word yet on its severity—and it really could be just some of the normal discomfort that can come during the course of a season, remedied simply by rest. Uncle Chollie didn't know much more about the situation, except for that Vic has been on the injury report this week.

"Shane came up to me and said he was having some problem with his hip and lower back," said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. "It's been on the [injury] report as a back, but tonight he said when he left the game he felt his hip was bothering him."

Asked if he thought it was serious, Manuel said, "I don't know, he'll get it checked out and everything."

The DN's David Murphy says we'll know more today in LA. Hopefully last night was all the rest Vic needed, because he's been on a great streak lately and we'll need him against the Dodgers. But, if he needs a game or two off, Jayson Werth will slide over to center, and someone from the bench—oh, I dunno, maybe... MATT STAIRS can play right and take a few at bats at Chavez Ravine. They'll need to have some PTSD support teams in place for when Dodgers fans see ol' Canadian Wood stride to the plate.
