According to the Dallas Star Tellegram, the Rangers have been investigating the Ben Sheets situation.

Apparently, the RHP has has injuries in the past and the Rangers are looking into his medical reports to see how he has progressed this offseason.

Sheets was diagnosed with a muscle tear in his right elbow in late September. The Rangers do not want to give a two year, $20 Million dollar contract to someone who might be on his way to a Tommy John Surgery.

The Rangers are awaiting the reports from Dr. James Andrews before they make a decision on him. It can be also said that the Yankees can jump in and spend another $10 Million per year for him, but I guess they think he can be another Carl Pavano.

That's why the Mets would prefer to sign Oliver Perez than Sheets and that's why the Mets have upped their offer for Perez.

The Mets backup plans do include Randy Wolf , who is toying offers from the Dodgers and Jon Garland, who is a guy that can be signed cheap because it seems only a few teams like the D'Backs have interest in him.
