It's been well documented by now that David Wright reached out to Gary Sheffield to convince him to become a Met and it was those text messages from "the face of the franchise" that swayed Shef to Flushing over several other cities, including division rival Philly....But what would motivate Wright one of the leagues poster children for political correctness to reach out to a player with such a notorious reputation. You name it Shef has been accused of it; clubhouse cancer, steroid user, demanding playing time and trades, purposely making errors, reneging on contracts, making derogatory remarks about coaches and the list goes on from there.....It sounds like those now infamous text messages came from a combination of respect and selfishness, which wasn't developed from within the clubhouse. Wright has never played with Shef but he has stood 90 feet away, watching that violent bat waggle in the wind just waiting to jump on a pitch. From his perspective at 3rd base it...
