I'm still not sure what exactly happened with Gary Sheffield, it's been reported that prior to the trading deadline, teams were interested in acquiring the aging slugger.A combinations of not wanting to appear to be sellers and keeping the only home run threat in the line-up as a box office draw, seems to be the only reasonable explanation for keeping him. Then in August when Sheffield was placed on waivers and claimed by the Giants, there doesn't appear to be any legitimate explanation for keeping him.
