Rays Index:
Joel Sherman of Newsday writes (via Twitter) that the Rays are not too anxious to trade any of their starting pitching depth. But notes that their stance “would change if [Joey] Votto became available.” He also notes that the Rays are “concentrating” on adding a first baseman, a designated hitter, and two relievers.
The Votto news is certainly enticing. However, Reds GM Walt Jocketty said Votto will not be traded and they are hoping to sign him to a long-term extension.
Votto hit .309 with a National League leading .416 OBP and 29 home runs. He was the NL MVP in 2010. Votto has two years remaining on his current contract that will pay him $9.5 million in 2012 and a whopping $17 million in 2013. So there’s that.

Matt Moore, 2012 Fantasy Outlook
On September 22nd, Matt Moore went into Yankee Stadium and delivered a gem — 5 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 11 Ks. Even though it was against the Yankees B lineup, which was produced and directed by Roger Corman, his lights-out performance in September was exactly what he’d been doing in the minor leagues since 2007. His Triple-A year in 2011 — 1.37 ERA, 13+ K/9 in...
Look for Reds to make trades, no free agents
The Reds don't figure to be players in the free agent market this offseason, considering that their payroll is likely to go up only slightly from last year's 80.8 million.
With nearly 50 million committed to seven players under contract, the club simply can't pursue top-end free agents. For example, the Reds did not make early calls to the agents for Jose Reyes or C.J...

Hellickson wins AL ROY- but he’s just getting started
Congratulations to Jeremy Hellickson on winning the AL Rookie of the Year Award. It was well deserved as he had a great season, going 13-10 with a 2.95 ERA in 29 starts. But the Rookie of the Year is just a starting point- Hellickson has a long way to go.
Hellickson struck out just 117 in 189 innings pitched, just a 5.6 K/9, and his 72 walks (3.4 BB/9), and 21 homers allowed (1.0...
Four Years Ago On Rays Index
Four years ago on Rays Index we learned that the Rays were planning an alternate jersey with “Tampa Bay” across the front. Hmmm, whatever happened to that?

Reds move Opening Day
I’ve been out of the state all week, and am now catching up on some old stuff, which is why you’re seeing this old news here now. Even half a week late, though, I think it’s worth pointing out.
The Reds had been scheduled to open the season on Friday, April 6. But thanks to some special finagling, they’ll now be playing the day before … [visit site to read more]
Reaping What You Sow: Cincinnati Reds Top 10 Prospects
After surprisingly making the playoffs in 2010, the Reds slipped in 2011, primarily due to a starting staff that declined rapidly, and it didn’t help that top prospect Aroldis Chapman had a really rough start to the season. Other than Chapman, few other Reds prospects spent major time in the majors, though several of them made an appearance in the majors. That’s not too bad though...
Marlins Show Pride In Their Home, The Rays Do Not
The Miami Marlins unveiled their new uniforms on Friday (right). After the logo leaked a few weeks ago, there were some concerns about how atrocious the uniforms would be. But if you ask us. they aren’t that bad, and in fact they look very South Beach.
But there is another reason that we are discussing these today. Notice that, of the four jerseys, three of them say “...
Francisco Cordero Drawing Heavy Interest
At least seven teams have expressed interest in free agent closer Francisco Cordero, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Cordero's agent Bean Stringfellow told MLB.com's Mark Sheldon as much yesterday, but Morosi also names many of the clubs who have interest in the right-hander: the Red Sox, Reds, Blue Jays, Marlins, Dodgers, Angels, and Mets.
