ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Yu Darvish struck out 10 over seven innings for the Texas Rangers to win a 1-0 pitchers' duel against James Shields and the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Ian Kinsler homered to give Texas enough against the suddenly sliding Rays, who have lost four in a row, had runners on base in each of the first five innings against Darvish (13-9) and still couldn't score. It was their fourth 1-0 loss this season -- all in their last 22 games this month. Shields (12-8) allowed only three hits over his seven innings, including Kinsler's homer leading off the fourth. The Rays right-hander struck out eight, walked two and hit a batter. Darvish, who allowed six hits, has a majors-best eight 10-strikeout games this season.

He led the major leagues in slugging, OPS, total bases, extra-base hits, home runs and hits. Beltre did all that despite going hitless Saturday and Sunday against Minnesota. He made up for...

Top Play: Craig Gentry makes two amazing catches

Texas Rangers outfielder Craig Gentry made two amazing catches on Sunday, including a home run saving catch to rob Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer. The first excellent grab occurred in the fifth inning when Gentry and second baseman Ian Kinsler collided in short center field. Kinsler collided with Gentry, but the fourth year player from the University of Arkansas held onto the...

Longoria homers twice to help Rays top Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Evan Longoria homered twice, Tampa Bay roughed up Matt Harrison and the Rays beat the Texas Rangers 8-4 Wednesday night to snap a four-game losing streak. After dropping the last two against the AL-West leading Rangers by one run, the Rays avoided the three-game sweep. Harrison (15-8) allowed seven runs and 12 hits in 5 1-3 innings. He took a no-hitter...

Sweaty Rangers fan got a little emotional in the 9th inning (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. I’m not sure there was anyone at the Ballpark in Arlington on Monday night who wanted a win more than this guy. This Rangers fan was hooting and hollering to the point where both the people next to them were full of embarrassment during the 9th inning of Texas’ 6-5 win over the Rays. I was trying to figure out if this guy was so emotional...

Maddon goes to 'pen early, often to salvage finale at Texas

Usually, Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon doesn't put more importance on any one game than another. But it was obvious how crucial winning Wednesday's game was, and avoiding a sweep by Texas, as he had the bullpen warming in the third inning and pulled starter Alex Cobb in the fifth as an early 6-0 lead started to slip away. Using six pitchers, Tampa Bay held on for...

Price takes first loss since June

David Price had a bad night Monday. That's news because he hadn't had one in so long. The Tampa Bay Rays left-hander had won eight consecutive decisions over his last 12 starts since a June 13 loss to the Mets, and he came in leading the majors in ERA and sharing the lead in wins. By the end of the night, he had given up six runs and 10 hits to the Rangers while failing...

Series with Texas provides Rays with stout test

The road may have smiled upon the Tampa Bay Rays in their last two cross-country swings with 14 wins in 19 outings. But the going looks potentially treacherous this week as they venture into the Lone Star State. Thats because the Rays slipped on the way out the door over the weekend. After a rejuvenating run of 14 wins in 17 games, they dropped two straight to Wild Card rival...

Oswalt clears waivers, no date for Napoli return

ARLINGTON, Texas Rangers pitcher Roy Oswalt told local reporters Tuesday he's been aware he had cleared waivers for several weeks. Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com reported earlier in the day that Oswalt cleared waivers and suggested the Dodgers as a potential trade partner. Oswalt did not express desire to be traded, but he's made no secret that he is not happy being in...

Rays-Blue Jays Preview

Outstanding pitching has been the theme of the second half for the Tampa Bay Rays, but it was the offense that helped them avoid a season-high fifth straight loss. Matt Moore has generally received a nice boost from the Rays' bats - even though he's rarely needed it of late. Moore has allowed seven runs in his last six starts, and he'll try to win a fifth straight decision...

Dodgers passing on Oswalt?

It’s widely known that the Los Angeles Dodgers are searching for more starting pitching. According to Jon Heyman there’s one pitcher that the team isn’t that high on and that’s Roy Oswalt. A couple months ago Oswalt was someone that was highly sought after unfortunately that changed once he started to pitch. @JonHeymanCBS: #dodgers person didnt seem that enthused about...
