A lot of people look at the New York Mets and the New York Yankees as rivals, but I don’t.  Clearly my point-of-view doesn’t matter in the big picture, but to me, the New York Yankees vs. the Boston Red Sox is a rivalry; the New York Mets vs. the Philadelphia Phillies is/was a rivalry.  When the New York Mets and New York Yankees meet it’s more of a hype machine than anything.  Anyway, that’s just my personal rant on that topic and it serves as a segue into what I want to discuss here.  Even though the two teams rarely come together for trades because of the “rivalry”, I think the New York Mets should make a call at some point and ask about the availability of Joba Chamberlain. It appears the Yankees have made up their mind in terms of Chamberlain’s role as a relief pitcher.  However, one potential snag is that they already have Mariano Rivera, David Robertson and Rafael Soriano holding down the back end of the ‘pen.  Now, that may not...

Gallery: A-Rod's WAGs throughout the years

A decade ago, Yankees third baseman, then Rangers shortstop Alex Rodriguez was coming off a season in which he hit .318, 52 home runs and knocked in 135 runs. He scored 133 runs and collected 201 hits. He also stole 18 bases. The next season (2002), he'd mash 57 bombs and knock in 142 runs. Today, Rodriguez has seen his numbers remain strong, but nowhere near as strong as...

Mets Notes: Cedeno, Hairston, 40-man issues and CRG

The Mets have reached agreement with infielder Ronny Cedeno on a one-year deal, worth just north of $1 million. The Mets had no backup shortstop on the roster so Cedeno certainly fills a need. He’s very good insurance in case Ruben Tejada regresses or if Daniel Murphy gets injured again. Cedeno is not much with the bat in his hands, as he has a lifetime OPS+ of 68 in 2,309...

Why Are the Yankees Cheap: Savvy or Remorse?

The Yankees have raised a lot of eyebrows this winter by standing pat on pitching and sending unambiguous signals that their unwillingness to spend money is predicated on wanting to avoid the luxury tax. A Yankee source went so far as to tell ESPN’s Wallace Matthews that the team was staying away from Hiroki Kuroda because, “We simply don’t have the money to pay...

Why did they call Alex Rodriguez a lightning rod for years? Because he doesn’t even have to do anything to generate news sometimes. Now we are treated to Hipster-Rod. A-rod was recently...
