The market for catcher A.J. Pierzynski is starting to heat up. Pierzynski represents the last viable name on the free agent market at catcher. Mike Napoli was given a three year deal from the Boston Red Sox worth $39  million. The Pittsburgh Pirates gave Russell Martin a contract worth $17 million over two years. Pierzynski future deal should fall somewhere between the two. One team known to be seeking an upgrade at catcher is the Texas Rangers. After losing out on re-signing Napoli, Texas is looking at the posability of having Geovany Soto as their primary catcher. Signing Pierzysnki would provide the type of veteran leadership that the team lost when they traded Michael Young to Philadelphia. Pierzynski’s numbers are likely to dip some next season from the 27 home runs he had in 2012 but he is still an accomplished hitter. In 15 career seasons, Pierzynksi is a  .284/.324/.429 hitter who averages 15 home runs and has gotten a reputation as a good game caller even if his ability to throw out runners is eroding. The New York Yankees who lost Martin and the Chicago White Sox, Pierzynski’s former team, are both known to have interest in the soon to be 36-year-old.

MLB Rumors: Do Texas Rangers Prefer Justin Upton To Josh Hamilton?

The Texas Rangers have not made any noise this offseason, which is very unlike them, especially when you look at what they have done in recent years. Whether that comes in the form of Justin Upton or Josh Hamilton remains to be seen. But it...

The Texas Rangers added another name to the catching mix Wednesday by picking up Eli Whiteside on a waiver claim from Toronto. Report: Red Sox Still ‘in the Mix’ for Josh Hamilton, With Other Teams Reticent to Offer Long-Term Deal

The longer Josh Hamilton stays on the market, the better the chances are of him landing in Boston. Hamilton, who went into the offseason looking for a deal of at least six years, has found few teams willing to give him an offer past three or four years. That means the Red Sox, who are reportedly interested in Hamilton to the tune of three years and as much as $25 million a year ...

Josh Hamilton Signing With Seattle Mariners Makes Too Much Sense Not to Happen

Josh Hamilton is still on the market, and this year’s supposed free-agent prize has fewer suitors than you’d think. Something surprising still could happen. The Red Sox are still out there and probably have more money to spend even once they address their pitching needs. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Yankees have reportedly done their due diligence on Hamilton, as well. However...

A rival executive, assessing the Texas Rangers on Monday, said, They're going to overpay Hamilton or they're going to overpay 'KT.'" That's Hamilton as in free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton.
