Prior to Saturday night’s 8-7 loss to the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets manager Terry Collins narrowed his options of replacing Dillon Gee to Miguel Batista and Matt Harvey.  Acording to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York:

Terry Collins said Chris Young should be fine for Wednesday’s start in Washington, and that the choice for Saturday against the Dodgers is pretty much down to Harvey and Miguel Batista.

Harvey’s next start will come Monday night and it may determine if he is ready for a promotion.

“Well, we’re going to have some people there watching it,” Collins said, according to Rubin. “Monday night we might get the reports back, ‘He’s the guy. He’s ready.’”

While he is not in consideration for a start Saturday versus the Dodgers, Collins did say Zack Wheeler could be called up to the Major Leagues at some point this season:

“I’ve heard wonderful, wonderful things about him,” Collins said, according to Teddy Cahil of MLB.com. “Getting better, getting better, getting better. He’s not out of the mix.”

Maybe that call-up should come sooner, rather than later.

Wheeler faced just three over the minimum, according to Tim Heiman of MiLB.com, scattering six hits while striking out seven during his first career complete game shut-out:

Look. I’m not saying Wheeler should definitely get the nod over Harvey; or Batista for that matter. And  I realize he is close to his innings limit for the year and that could be an issue in the second half. That said, he should, at the very least, be in consideration.  He is the organizations top pitching prospect.  And, he is pitching as such.  As Rubin tweeted: “Plenty of times prospects jump straight from AA to majors.”

Over his 16 starts for Double-A Binghamton, the 22-year-old right-hander has struck out 95 batters to only 36 walks, while boasting a very impressive 2.39 ERA over 101 2/3 innings of work:
