Every good thing must come to an end. So it has been for St. Louis Cardinals left-handed reliever Kevin Siegrist. The rookie tasted his first adversity as a major leaguer when allowing one run in one inning of work against Chicago on Friday. Prior to that, in his first 12 outings, consisting of 12 scoreless innings, Siegrist fanned 17 and yielded just two hits. Researcher Tom Orf helps us put that scoreless streak into perspective from several angles. Siegrist set a new record for consecutive scoreless appearances to start an MLB and Cardinals career, passing another left-hander, Tyler Johnson, but one appearance, 12 to 11. However, there were two longer streaks established at the start of their respective Cardinals careers by veterans joining St. Loiuis from other clubs – Tony Fossas and Edward Mujica.
