Pro Sports Daily:
The Braves clinched the NL East title while they were still batting in sixth inning of their game at Wrigley Field on Sunday when the Marlins beat the second-place Nationals in Washington.
The Cubs were probably thankful since it meant they wouldn’t have to face Julio Teheran for more than one more inning.
Teheran had no trouble with Chicago batters for six innings of a 5-2 win in the series finale striking out seven walking none and allowing one run and four hits only one of which was a clean hit. He was replaced after throwing 67 strikes in 91 pitches.
Andrelton Simmons hit two home runs and league MVP candidate Freddie Freeman had three hits including a two-run homer in the first inning staking Teheran (13-8) to a lead that he and the bullpen wouldn’t relinquish.
The Braves finished a 3-3 trip with a win assuring their postgame celebration and flight home wouldn’t have the feel of backing into the division title. Plenty of Braves fans in the crowd of 30515 cheered when the sc...

The Atlanta Braves are National League East champions for the first time since 2005 after the Washington Nationals’ 4-2 loss to the Miami Marlins.
The Braves needed just one win or one Nationals loss to officially end the NL East race.
The Braves have led the division
ATLANTA -- The champagne flowed, sprayed and ultimately bathed the Braves as they celebrated their National League East title Sunday in Wrigley Field.
Back home, their first game post-clinching had all the feel of a hangover. No pun intended.
"I think we were ready to play," said Evan Gattis, who went 0 for 4. "I guess I could see, but I didn't witness it."...
The Atlanta Braves truly had a great Sunday, as the team beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 and had the Washington Nationals lose to the Miami Marlins to clinch Atlanta’s first divisional title since 2005.

The Atlanta Braves' long-awaited quest for a division title officially came to pass on Sunday afternoon, after the Miami Marlins knocked off the Nationals in Washington, 4-2.
With the Nationals' loss, the Braves' magic number for claiming the National League East crown dropped to zero, clinching Atlanta's berth in the MLB playoffs and the franchise's first division...
Buried in this article by Bob Nightengale of USA Today about Nelson Cruz's absence hurting the Rangers is this little nugget about how the Rangers tried to solve their outfield woes in July - by trying to trade for Braves left fielder Justin Upton. The Rangers, trying to solve that power void, tried to pull off a blockbuster deal for Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton before...
It's all fun and games until somebody gets beer in his eyes.
The Atlanta Braves were celebrating their National League East title, and suds were flying, which is why Brian McCann, like others in the clubhouse, had a pair of goggles. But he pulled them off his eyes for an interview -- because to do otherwise just wouldn't be polite -- and then watch what happens:
The Atlanta Braves have clinched their first NL East title in eight years.
Atlanta was leading the Chicago Cubs 3-1 in the sixth inning at Wrigley Field when second-place Washington lost 4-2 to Miami, handing the Braves their second consecutive playoff appearance. Atlanta lost 6-3 to St. Louis in the wild-card game last season.
It's the first division title for manager Fredi...

Alex Wood’s time in the Atlanta Braves rotation has come to an end. The Braves will use Wood as a relief pitcher during the post season and want to give the 22-year-old lefty a chance to get comfortable in that role.
Wood had not went five innings in his last three starts.
On Sunday the Braves used Wood in the eighth inning, something...
The Braves franchise played 1292 regular-season games between division titles and the team that finally ended the drought wasn’t favored to overtake Washington when this season began then absorbed repeated blows and season-ending surgeries along the way.
All the better they say.

The Atlanta Braves clinched the NL East championship on Sunday, but it wasn't their 5-2 win over the Cubs that sealed the division - it was the Marlins' 4-2 win in Washington earlier in the day that officially locked things up for the Braves. The loss dropped the Nationals to 83-72, knocking them out of the NL East race. Just for good measure, the Braves held on to win in...
While the Atlanta Braves jumped around in a circle near the mound at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs packed up and trudged off to their clubhouse.
It was the latest in a long series of difficult images from another losing season for the Cubs.
Edwin Jackson served up home runs to Freddie Freeman and Andrelton Simmons, and Chicago went on to a 5-2 loss that touched off an NL East...
Once again, the champagne will have to wait.
Needing a win to secure a division title, the majors' best bullpen couldn't make Kris Medlen's gem stick as the Cubs scored three runs in the eight to sink the Braves 3-1.
The loss left them scoreboard-watching for the second straight night, but the weather in D.C. didn't cooperate as the Nationals and Marlins were postponed...
With the Atlanta Braves resting a handful of regulars, Marco Estrada carved through an Atlanta lineup appearing to be suffering from a division-clinching hangover.
A day after the Braves clinched and celebrated the National League East title, Atlanta had just two hits against Estrada. The right-hander struck out six over seven scoreless innings in Milwaukee's 5-0 victory at...
They are the Beasts of the East.
During the fourth inning of Sunday’s game in Chicago, there was an explosion of hugs in the Atlanta Braves’ dugout. Yes, they were winning 2-1, but they had just found out that the Washington Nationals had lost to the Miami Marlins to clinch the NL East division title for the Braves.
As I predicted in my 2013 Season Preview, the Braves appear...
