You may have lost Hanley Ramirez, Brett Lawrie, or Derek Jeter for the start of the season. And, if you’re anything like me, you neglected to draft a back-up for that position. If you’re in that unenviable spot, check your waiver wire for guys like Alcides Escobar, Jean Segura, and Kevin Youkilis. If they don’t tickle your fancy, there’s a healthy player on the New York Yankees, Eduardo Nunez, who will be starting at shortstop on Opening Day.
Only owned in 9% of Yahoo League, Nunez has much more speed than managers realize. He went 7/9 in stolen base attempts this Spring and stole 11/13 in under 90 AB last season. Extrapolate that pace over a full season and we’re talking about 50 steals. I’m not going to suggest he’ll total those kind of crazy numbers, but the guy has talent. He’s a career .272 hitter- not too shabby-and is only 25 years old.
Nunez, would be an everyday starter if it weren’t for his atrocious defense. With Jeter and A-Rod injured, he’ll start everyday until Jeter returns from injury. He’ll then likely start at SS against lefties and possibly DH against righties depending on how Travis Hafner fares. This will be Nunez best opportunity to show he is a major league caliber ball player. He has proved it with his bat and on the base paths, now he must prove it with his glove. Luckily, for fantasy owners, his errors won’t hurt you. Go pick him up.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez told reporters that while he is still in "Stage 1" of his recovery from hip surgery, he is "devoting 100 percent" of his time to rehab.
As if things weren’t bad enough for the New York Yankees, now they have one of their veterans making some bold predictions.
The Bronx Bombers made a trip to West Point Saturday afternoon to close out a very long and stressful spring training, but it’s what long-time Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte said before the game that has baseball analysts scratching their heads.
PRETTY CRAZYLyrics by Alex Rodriguez I love when all These people say You can’t do this, You can’t do that, You’re done, You’re old... And I find it A great challenge To prove All you guys wrong And everyone wrong.(Chorus) I’m not going To further discuss this...Everything will be good...Pretty crazy. The big question, now that second baseman Robinson Cano has hired CAA and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports as his new agents, is whether the switch means that the New York Yankees stand a better chance of signing him.
Brodie Van Wagenen, who will be Cano’s primary baseball agent for CAA, didn’t answer that question directly in an interview with FOXSports.com on Tuesday night...

Late last week the New York Mets announced that former New York and Boston skipper Bobby Valentine would be doing some pre- and postgame analysis for cable channel SNY this season. However, that isn’t stopping Valentine from talking about his former market.
In an interview with the New York Post, Valentine appears to be following Carl Crawford‘s lead of blaming his struggles...
