Fox Sports:
The Boston Red Sox are still discussing whether to get a starting pitcher for a potential tie-breaker for the AL wild card, sources say.
Among Boston's targets is Royals LHP Bruce Chen.
Chen cleared waivers and rates as a potential Type B free agent, meaning the Red Sox could give up something of value for a starter that may never even pitch for them.
Should the move occur, Chen, who is scheduled to pitch tonight, would be ineligible for the postseason roster because the deal happened after Aug. 31.
It remains to be seen if the Red Sox and Royals complete a deal, but the move would have to happen today if Boston hopes Chen can pitch in a potential tie-breaker vs. the Rays.
