Just across the news wire, the Oakland A’s Twitter reports that the Red Sox have traded minor leaguer Jason Rice to acquire Conor Jackson. More info on this after the jump.

Jackson will likely help out in the outfield during the final month of the season, with rosters expanding today. Jackson should qualify for the Sox postseason roster, meaning that he might edge out Darnell McDonald (and potentially JD Drew) for an outfield spot in October. Jackson’s role will presumably be to bump McDonald out of a platoon with Josh Reddick in right field, although the move baffles me a little. Jackson is only hitting .254 against lefties this year in 138 PA. I suppose it’s his career numbers that really matter, with a career .286 BA against lefties. Jackson has posted a 20.6 UZR/150 in right field this year for Oakland, so his defense will be welcomed to Fenway.
