Photo: Messerschmidt/Getty ImagesJon Lester—who started the year 6-0—has not won a game since May 15th. It has to make you wonder if there is something physically wrong with the left-hander. Last night, he could not finish five innings—on a night the team needed more—yielding seven runs, seven walks, and three home runs in the 8-3 loss. His lack of command brings to mind the early part of his career, when he struggled throwing strikes. Hopefully, the sage analysis of John Farrell will solve things soon. Boston had little offensive punch against the pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona. Mike Napoli knocked in two runs, while Jose Iglesias ran his hitting streak to 14 games with two more hits. The kid is now hitting .449. Alfredo Aceves pitches the rubber match tonight.

Your Morning Dump...where Lester is getting everyone nervous.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Jon Lester’s Rough Start Comes at Inopportune Time for Red Sox in More Ways Than One (Video)

The Red Sox were hoping that Jon Lester would be able to go deep in Tuesday night’s game. Instead, it was the Rays batters who went deep, unfortunately. Lester walked seven batters and surrendered three home runs in a start he’s not likely to dwell on for long. Unfortunately, it continues a rough stretch for him that spans beyond this one outing. Hopefully, it’s not one that...

Jon Lester’s Downturn Is Difficult to Explain, May Be Due to Recurring Mechanical Issue

For years, if you asked any left-handed batter in the American League who they least enjoyed facing, the answer was almost always Lester. That, of course, was due to the action on the 29-year-old’s infamous cut fastball, which Lester liked to start at a left-handed batter’s hip and move to the inside corner. Going back to Lester’s final four starts of the 2011 season, however...
