In a memorable night highlighted by David Ortiz hitting his 300th homerun, the Red Sox bullpen spoiled the historic feat by blowing the lead and letting the game get away from them, something we have rarely seen this season from baseball’s best bullpen. The Red Sox jumped out to an early 3-0 lead off of Royal's starter Luke Hochevar in the 1st thanks in large part to David Ortiz's 300th career home run.  He joins an elite club which has only 124 members and 19 active players.  Before Ortiz's historic two-run blast, Kevin Youkilis hit an RBI single to make it a 1-0 game after Dustin Pedroia doubled to lead off the game.
