It’s hardly a blockbuster move but the Sox have added some potential depth to the rotation by signing RHP Aaron Cook to a minor league deal. Cook is perhaps best known to Red Sox fans as the starting pitcher in Game Four of the 2007 World Series but he is an interesting guy too look at.When Cook is on his game he is a ground ball machine. Cook has a career ground ball rate of over 57% (thanks, FanGraphs) which is quite similar to former Red Sox pitcher Justin Masterson (56.1%). The last couple of seasons have been unkind to Cook. After posting an ERA+ over 100 for 7 of his first 8 MLB seasons (of varying length) Cook had just a 91 in 2010 and a 74 in 2011. At first glance 2011 is largely BABiP driven (.346).
