TEAMS: Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers
We recently found out that the Red Sox don't have enough available cash for Roy Oswalt and there is little they can do to fix that problem. That was then, now we have a solution...Vicente Padilla. I could barely type that with a straight face. The Sox and Padilla have agreed to a minor-league deal.
This just looks like another insurance policy or bottom of the rotation fill-in, and in no way is this any response to the Yankees recent additions.Jon Heyman later tweeted that the deal is a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. Padilla will join fellow spring training invitees Aaron Cook and Carlos Silva in battle for a roster spot.
Padilla reportedly met with Red Sox doctors last week, and apparently is healthy enough that Boston agreed to bring him aboard.
