The Sox are one game closer to winning the Mayor's Cup with another win over the Twins in Spring Training.  This time the Sox beat the Twins on their field just 5 miles down the road.  Clay Buchholz started the game for the Sox and pitched two scoreless innings, giving up 2 walks and K'ing two batters.  Clay had some command issues, but it still was a productive outing.  It was just nice seeing Buchholz back out and pitching on a mound.  Buchholz was followed by Padilla, another guy who is competing for that 5th starting job.  Padilla also threw 2 scoreless innings, just barely.  He had a nice 1-2-3 inning in the 3rd, but then really struggled in the 4th.  Padilla gave up 3 hits, but with the bases loaded he was able to get out of trouble.  Padilla also threw his eephus pitch aka a 56 mph pitch, followed by a 93 mph pitch.

The Sox got on the board early in the game by scoring 4 runs in 2nd.  The Sox capitalized on some pitching and fielding struggles from the Twins.   David Ortiz hit his first homer of spring training in the 3rd with a solo shot to right field.  The Sox really added on in the 7th inning with RBI hits from Middlebrooks and Spears followed by a 3 run HR from catcher Dan Butler to give the Sox the 10-2 lead.  The Twins were able to score their 2 runs during the 5th inning when Inman took the mound for the Sox.  Let's just say he was less than impressive.

It was a nice game all around.  Iglesias started the game at shortstop and his at bats showed promise.  He walked in his first at bat and then bunted for a single in his second at bat.  We know Iggy has a glove, it is his bat which has been a concern for the Red Sox.  I thought it was a really nice game to show how even without much pop to his bat, how he can be productive.

Red Sox 10  Twins 2  BOXSCORE
