We’re just over a year into Alex Anthopoulos’ rebuilding plan for the Jays, and it’s staggering to see just how much the team has changed. The heart of the roster from JP Riccardi’s years are almost completely gone. Roy Halladay, Vernon Well, Alex Rios, Scott Downs, Lyle Overbay are all playing with other teams now; while a new core, led by newly-signed Jose Bautista, is surely falling in place. It’s strange, in this sense, to think that the Blue Jay with the most service time is 28-year old Aaron Hill (just followed by John Macdonald and Adam Lind). When the Jays locked up Hill to a 4- year contract extension in 2008, it seemed like a reasonable deal – he was young and had pop in his bat; locking him up through his arbitration years made sense.
