On Friday, it was a great pitching matchup as James Shields took on Josh Beckett in the second game of a critical 4-game set at Fenway Park. The Rays jumped out to an early lead as Evan Longoria homered off Beckett in the first, but Shields gave it right back, allowing RBI singles to Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz. A Jason Varitek throwing error led to another Rays lead in the 3rd as Evan Longoria singled in Desmond Jennings, but David Ortiz laced a game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the inning and backup infielder Mike Aviles drilled a go-ahead homer off Shields in the 4th. 4-3 would be the final as Beckett (13-5) beat Shields (15-11) and Jonathan Papelbon notched his 30th save.
