Another Cubs Blog:
The Stumping for Milton Bradley pieces worked wonders (don?t forget to leave a caption in the contest to win a Bradley jersey). I believe I am responsible for persuading the Cubs into signing Milton Bradley. Well, not really, but it?s not going to stop me from a new series for a player I think the Cubs should sign. So, until Ben Sheets is signed, I will try to post something each day about why the Cubs should sign him. Today I?m just going to link to RJ Anderson?s article on fangraphs that shows Sheets is as good as Lowe who just signed a 4-year deal with the Braves.
Even with those injury concerns, Sheets is a valuable asset. Sheets? streak of 200+ inning seasons ended in 2005. Yet despite reduced innings Sheets has posted win values of 3.5, 4.2, 2.5, and 3.9. That?s an average of 3.5. Coincidentally 2005 was also Derek Lowe?s first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and in the same time span, Lowe has averaged 3.48 wins. It?s worth noting that Lowe also pitched in 244 more innings.
Ben Sheets is good at baseball.
