The Phillies have signed outfielder Cory Sullivan to a Minor League contract, according to several sources including MLB.com and Phillies.com.
Sullivan will be in Minor League camp with a possibility of making the major league club. It is likely that Sullivan (a left-handed hitter) would have to outperform Ross Gload (L), John Mayberry, Jr. (R) and Domonic Brown (L) in order to ride the Phillies bench. If Sullivan fails to earn a major league roster spot, he would likely look to audition in Spring Training for another club as a spare outfielder. Sullivan will head for AAA Lehigh Valley in the event that he fails to make a major league roster.
His arrival provides the Phillies some outfield depth, particularly in center field. Sullivan has played 260 games in center field in his career, which he has spent with the Rockies, Mets and Astros.
