When free agency opened, former Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Nelson Cruz had some pretty lofty salary demands. Those apparently haven’t changed which is likely why the power hitter remains in the free agent pool while many of his counterparts have signed new deals. Cruz, who was suspended for 50 games during the 2013 season for being linked to the Biogenesis scandal has found limited suitors clamoring for his services, partly due to the suspension. But some of the disinterest is due to his elevated salary requests according to the Boston Globe. The power-hitting outfielder lingers in free agency. Teams are staying away because salary demands still haven’t come down quite enough, according to one National League general manager. Keep in mind, Cruz, after being extended a qualifying offer by the Texas Rangers also comes with draft pick compensation attached. So any team that signs Cruz will not only have to part with money, but will also forfeit a future draft pick
