The Texas Rangers signed outfielder Willy Taveras to a Triple-A Minor League contract, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.
Taveras has been with a number of organization this season. Most recently he was in the Atlanta Braves Minor Leagues, but was released earlier this month. Taveras was with the Cincinnati Reds last season, then was traded to the Oakland Athletics last winter. Oakland released the outfielder before Spring Training and he quickly signed with the Washington Nationals. The Nationals released Taveras in mid-May. He was signed by the Phillies in June, but was eventually released.
Taveras, 28, was hitting .200/.243/.257 in 27 games with the Nationals this season.
