The Texas Rangers lost Game 1 of the World Series on a couple close plays and questionable moves by manager Ron Washington. That won’t happen again in Game 2. Instead of tip-toeing around his pitchers having to bat in an NL ballpark, Washington will be aggressive with his lineup. After all, Texas has one of the top offenses in baseball. The Rangers will utilize those big bats in a Game 2 victory to tie this year’s Fall Classic.
Washington made a poor decision to pinch hit Esteban German in Game 1 and it cost the Rangers. He took a gamble and all good managers should, but he learned from his mistake. If he does need to pinch hit for a pitcher again on Thursday night, he’ll make sure the batter he chooses is capable.
The Rangers swung at some bad pitches in Game 1. That happens with an aggressive team that’s hit the ball well in both previous playoff series. However, sluggers like right fielder Nelson Cruz will have to be more patient at the plate.
