Found September 23, 2012 on Diamond Hoggers:
The 2012 Cincinnati Reds have partially fulfilled a destiny. In yesterday’s 6-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, Mat Latos threw eight dominant shutout innings. Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips homered. Bruce’s 34th home run of the season was a matter of tradition; he’s homered each time the Reds have clinched a division title. I sat in the farthest reaches of the upper deck at Great American that October night back in 2010 when the Reds were eliminated from the playoffs, and I told my wife that this group of Reds would be back. I had a strong feeling that the Reds were going to miss the playoffs entirely in 2011 and serve as a monumental disappointment around baseball. Check. I also told her that 2012 was the year. I told her that night that I had a vision of them storming back to make a run for the World Series in 2012. Here we are. In all of my life, no matter how long I live; I’ll never forget the 2012 Cincinnati Reds. This is both the most talented, and the most memorable grou...

Game 152: And the 2012 NL Central belongs to the Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds partied in the clubhouse following their 2012 NL Central win.The Cincinnati Reds started the game with a magic number of 1. All they needed was for the Chicago Cubs to hold on and beat the St. Louis Cardinals or to win their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Reds try to figure 9-game course of action

CINCINNATI -- The first goal is under glass now, the National League Central championship for the Cincinnati Reds. And with nine games left in the season, the questions are, "Where to and what now?" What is there to maintain the interest for two weeks before the playoffs commence? It would be easy for the team to relax, lick its wounds from the long, long season and to...

Reds celebrate clinching NLC

Your browser does not support iframes. I wore my Reds tweet-up shirt to Best Buy yesterday to buy a couple discount DVDs, and the guy at the checkout counter was telling me how he hoped the Reds could win 100 games. That *would* be cool, but, yeah, probably not. For one thing, they’d have to win 80% of the remaining games. For another thing, they’re going to be resting up a bit...

Reds finally strike the right balance

Bonus notes from our MLB on Fox broadcast of the Reds' clincher against the Dodgers on Saturday ... As I wrote Friday , the Reds are better than when they won the 2010 NL Central title, mostly because of improvements to their rotation and bullpen. Reds right fielder Jay Fielder goes even further. "It's not even close," Bruce says. "We are much more experienced...

Re-live the Reds’ division-clinching celebration

Last Game You get the feeling the Reds were out partying a little too late after clinching the division, based on their performance last night. It was the rubber game against the Dodgers, and the Reds were actually hanging in there for a while. But in the end, 3 Joey Votto walks and a Denis Phipps home run were not enough. The game was a must-win for the Dodgers who are still in...

After a fifteen year absence from postseason play the Cincinnati Reds have clinched their second division championship in three years.
