With the Chicago Cubs trade of Marlon Byrd, outfielder Brett Jackson inches another step closer to making his major league debut though the team insists they will not rush him to the major leagues. Jackson is currently hitting .253 in 75 at bats with two home runs, eight RBI and three stolen bases. His strikeout rate is still cause for concern at 28% this season, which is going to impact his batting average once he is promoted.

Will Middlebrooks (BOS) – one of the hottest prospects in the minor leagues, Middlebrooks has been crushing Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .371 batting average with 8 home runs and 25 RBI plus two stolen bases. Given the injury history of third basemen Kevin Youkilis at the major league level, Middlebrooks is going to see time in Boston at some point this season.

Travis d’Arnaud (TOR) – despite the slow start of catcher J.P Arencibia at the major league level, a’Arnaud has been performing similarly at Triple-A with a .220 batting average and one home run with seven RBI. Travis is a better prospect with better plate discipline, but he figures to spend the majority of 2012 in AAA.

Matt Davidson (ARI ) – Davidson is off to a blazing start at Double-A, batting .370 with three home runs and 11 RBI while showing good strike zone judgement with 13 walks and 14 strikeouts in 73 at bats. With Ryan Roberts off to a slow start and batting .170, the Diamondbacks could jump Davidson straight to the major leagues like they did with Paul Goldschmidt last season.

Derek Norris (OAK) – with catcher Kurt Suzuki struggling at the plate, Derek Norris could be closer to seeing the major leagues this season. Picked up by Oakland in the Gio Gonzalez trade last December, Norris is batting .333 in 66 at bats with two home runs and 13 RBI at Triple-A.

Jedd Gyorko (SD) – with the hot start of Chase Headley at third base, the Padres will be less likely to rush Gyorko to the major leagues. Playing at AA in San Antonio, he is batting .238 with two home runs and eight RBI along with 17 runs scored.
