The Jays could only muster two hits in last night's game against the Royals, while Purcey displayed another poor effort on the mound allowing six earned in five innings.  Purcey is now 0-2 with an ERA of 7.01.  He has been getting into similar problems in all of his outings this season, predominately coming in the form of allowing walks and big hits.  In 25.2 innings pitched this season, Purcey has allowed 28 hits and 18 walks, which have led to 20 earned runs.  These are terrible numbers for a pitcher who was touted to be a strong third pitcher in this rotation.  It is sad, because Purcey has showed promise, especially in spring training when he won the third spot in the rotation hands down.  In most cases, if these kind of performances continued, it would lead to a visit to AAA, but with the Jays rotation suffering with injuries, Gaston might be forced to keep Purcey in the Bigs, allowing him to fight through his inconsistencies.  Really, Purcey just needs a shot of confidence, and one good start should do it for him, lets hope it comes in five days time.No matter how badly Purcey pitched, the Jays were never going to win this game with the two hits they could muster.  It started promisingly with Lind hitting an RBI-single in the first inning.  It looked at this point like it was going to be another fun game for Jays fans.  But Royals starter Brian Bannister calmed down and didn't let up another hit over his seven innings of work, although he gave the Jays chances by allowing six walks.  The Jays streak of six consecutive series wins could be in serious trouble as they face starters Gil Meche and Zack Greinke in the games to come against the Royals.  Even if they scratch out a win against Meche (1-1, 2.63 ERA) they will have to face possibly the hottest pitcher in baseball the next day.  Take a load of these stats...In four starts so far this season, Zack Greinke is 4-0 with two complete games and NO RUNS ALLOWED.  He has pitched 29 innings giving up 19 hits, none of those being home runs while he has struck out 36 batters.  Finally, his opponents batting average is a cheap .186.  Jays are going to need to good luck and hot bats to win this series.
