There have been rumblings for awhile now that the Cubs wanted to call up their star prospect, first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Now it seems the Cubs are finally ready.

Rizzo is supposed to be called up Tuesday although he is unlikely to face Johan Santana, which is completely understandable. I don’t think I’d want my young lefty getting owned in his first major league game. But it’s still exciting for those who are in need of help at the first base position.

Why you ask?

Because Rizzo has been an absolute monster in AAA. So far this season he’s hitting .345 with 23 HR, 62 RBI and 48 R in 63 games played. I don’t think I need to stress how nasty that is.

Hes only 22 years old and is already filling out his 6’3 frame. The future seems to be extremely bright for Rizzo, which explains why the Cubs were willing to move the red hot Bryan LaHair to the outfield and sacrifice speedster Tony Campana’s playing time.

The best part of it all?

Rizzo was in the Red Sox system until he was sent to San Diego in the Adrian Gonzalez deal. Seemed like a fair trade off at the time but the more that A-Gon looks like Wade Boggs light, it’s yet another move that seemingly hasn’t panned out.

So, if you need some help at first, or you’re just looking to bolster your offense, take a chance with this kid. Bryce Harper and Mike Trout have already proven the old Ailiyah adage that “Age ain’t nothing but a number.” And Rizzo may have more power potential than either of those two.

Now let’s head over to Storify for some more…
