It may not have been his biggest test, but it was a test nonetheless, and one Ryan Howard passed.

Ryan Howard went 2 for 4 last night with the Lakewood Blue Claws and drove in three runs. Howard had a pair of singles, grounded out, struck out and hit a sacrifice fly in his 5 plate appearances.

After the game, Howard said it felt good to get into game action and that he felt good while running the bases. Those are positive indications for the Big Piece.

Even though it was Single A, it was Howard’s first real game action since going down with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon last October in the final game of the Phillies’ season. He may not be exactly where he needs to be, but he is playing baseball and on his way back.

Ryan Howard will return to action tonight with the Claws, only this time he will start at first base, another indication of his progress.
