Photo Courtesy of Renee Cendrowski. It may not have been his biggest test, but it was a test nonetheless, and one Ryan Howard passed. Ryan Howard went 2 for 4 last night with the Lakewood Blue Claws and drove in three runs. Howard had a pair of singles, grounded out, struck out and hit a sacrifice fly in his 5 plate appearances. After the game, Howard said it felt good to get into game action and that he felt good while running the bases. Those are positive indications for the Big Piece. Even though it was Single A, it was Howard’s first real game action since going down with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon last October in the final game of the Phillies’ season. He may not be exactly where he needs to be, but he is playing baseball and on his way back. Ryan Howard will return to action tonight with the Claws, only this time he will start at first base, another indication of his progress. Similar Posts:

Howard’s Absence Has Killed the Myth

Ryan Howard hadn’t run the bases in a competitive situation until arriving in Lakewood on Thursday. He hadn’t hit in a game that counted. Until Friday, he hadn’t fielded at game speed. That the Phillies chose to allow Howard to play first base one night after he made his rehab debut was a positive sign. Howard in his postgame press conference Thursday said repeatedly that he...

Kendrick Kills Phils in 1st; Pirates Split Series

Kendrick buried them early (AP) The Phillies keep finding new ways to piss the fans off. In Thursday’s 5-4, finale loss to the Pirates, Kyle Kendrick did them in before their first at bat. KENDRICK KILLS THEM EARLY -Sometimes, in baseball, it comes down to one inning. The Phillies were unable to overcome Kyle Kendrick’s awful start. He put them in a 5-0 hole they could not recover...

New Lineup, Same Old Bullpen

Chase Utley with shades of Joe Dimaggio in 1949, homering in his first at-bat of the season following an injury. (AP) Not even the return of Chase Utley could save the Phillies tonight, as the team fell to the Pirates 11-7 behind a hapless effort from the bullpen–a unit which has been the Achilles heel all season. CHASE RETURNS IN STYLE -Two out, nobody on, 2-2 count. Chase...

Phillies Prospects Making All-Star Games

There won't be as many Phillies in the mid-summer's class as there have been in recent years. This is a product of being in last place 78 games into the season. While we'll only have a couple in San Diego, the Phillies affiliates in the minor leagues will be represented- and even host an All-Star game. Ryne Sandberg will take a couple of his IronPigs to the AAA All-Star...

Baseball Talk Philadelphia: Friday Fan Rant

Tom Van Leer leads off with a lot to say: Dear Baseball Talk: Philadelphia Where do I start. It is hard to believe this team. Just when our Offence is starting to get in motion our bullpen continues to be mediocre. Last night the team, the fans, and the city was the happiest its been since Opening Day. Chase is back, we hear Ryan Howard is starting rehab, and Chooch is the best...

A Philadelphia Phillies fan attended Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates wearing full catcher's gear, in honor of Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz. Well, at least the mask will keep people from recognizing him. Click here to watch video via MLB.com. Visit us at http://holdoutsports.com, and now you can follow us on Twitter at @HoldoutSports.

Cole Hamels Seeking First Win Against Marlins This Season

Well last night wasn't the start we were looking for. Cliff Lee was lit up for six earned and the Phils only produced two runs themselves. It wasn't a good game at all, and for Cliff Lee it hasn't been a good season at all. The Marlins now hold a 4-3 record against the Phillies this year, as well as sitting 2 1/2 games ahead of them in the divison standings. This afternoon...
