For those who are unbelieving of the Mayan Prophecy, the one that says that we're due for big changes on December 21st, 2012? They've been giving us hints all along this baseball season. Where the Mayans might have screwed up is giving us so many hints during the same game. Not enough that the Mets went out and beat the Phillies for the seventh time in eight games in Philadelphia. And not enough that Lucas Duda actually went deep for the first time since coming back from Buffalo. And not enough that he looked a gazelle trapped in a cement mixer going after a Ryan Howard line drive yet actually caught it to save the game in the fifth inning with two outs and two runners on ... with those two plays, Duda pretty much won the freakin' game.

But then he stole a base.

That's right, Lucas Duda stole a base in the eighth inning. Not on the back end of a double steal, either. A straight f'ing steal by a guy who may or may not have been eating chili dogs with VP candidate Paul Ryan the other day (I myself have never seen Duda and Chris Moody in the same place at the same time.) So may I suggest that you all go into your fallout shelters which are stocked with freeze dried meatloaf and Tang and wait for the merciful end to come for all of us. But make sure you get good internet so you can keep track of the rest of Matt Harvey's starts.

What I liked about Harvey on Wednesday night, and he's done it before, was that even though he was laboring a bit through the early innings, he still had enough stuff to not only get through his start, but throw pitches like the one he threw to Erik Kratz to end the sixth inning ... a pill on the outside edge of the plate which a ham n' egger like Kratz had zero chance at. Not only that, Harvey shook off Shoppach to get the pitch he wanted and nailed it. This guy not only has the stuff but he's got a clue as to what he wants to do. You need a reason to watch Mets baseball the rest of the season? Forget third place ... Matt Harvey is your reason.

Oh, and here's another reason: To see Howard get robbed of hits by large oafs and make faces like this one:

He's not mad, he's just catching a glimpse of the pig flying high over the scoreboard.
