Phillies third base prospect Cody Asche is back once again to check in directly from spring training in Clearwater, FL. A 4th round draft selection in 2011 out of the University of Nebraska, Asche has been a fast rising prospect since joining the Phillies organization. Last year, the 22-year-old, in his first full professional season, tallied a .324 batting average with 12 home runs, 72 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 130 combined games with Class A Advanced Clearwater and Double-A Reading. Asche followed that up with a .281/.343/.438 line with Peoria in the Arizona Fall League, then went 5-for-14 (.357 average) with two doubles in eight big league spring games this year. In the latest edition of The Cody Chronicles, Asche speaks about being reassigned to minor league camp, Phils legend Mike Schmidt, what he took from his time with the big league team and plenty more. Sharing his thoughts on being reassigned to minor league camp recently… “It’s something that, when you’re in camp, it’s g...

Rapid Reaction: “Blow Up the Phillies!”

Doc was crushed on Tuesday. He could be part of the “blow up” eventually. (AP) From an injury standpoint, this spring has gone about as well as the Phillies could have hoped (except for Roy Halladay getting crushed on Tuesday by the Tigers).  After a disastrous 2012, optimism has begun to regenerate throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond, with a handful of national baseball...

Charlie Manuel concerned with Roy Halladay’s spring struggles

Last week we told you that Roy Halladay’s velocity was down during a spring outing against the Washington Nationals. Though he had success in that start (facing only one Nats starter), his velocity was down again Tuesday and this time he struggled. Halladay gave up seven runs, six hits, four walks, and two home runs in 2.2 innings against a Detroit Tigers lineup that did not include...

Hooters ball girl snags ball at Phillies spring training game, doesn't know its fair (Video)

While most think spring training is just for the players, the ball boys and ball girls are also getting into the the swing of things as well. Back on Saturday, one Hooters ball girl stationed at the Tampa Bay Rays and Philadelphia Phillies had a moment that she would like to forget. After a Tampa Bay line drive in the sixth inning, the ball girl scooped it up and handed to...

Tigers rough up Halladay, beat Phillies

Roy Halladay used two meaningful words to alleviate concern over a terrible outing. ''Nothing hurts,'' Halladay said. Considering he's coming off an injury-plagued year, that's important news for the Philadelphia Phillies. Ramon Santiago hit a grand slam and Don Kelly also homered off Halladay, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 10-6 win over the Phillies...

Scouting Phils Prospect #8: Tommy Joseph

Tommy Joseph put up an impressive showing in Phillies camp this spring, but was always destined to start the year in the minors. With a glut of catching, it's tough to anoint anyone as the Phillies catcher of the future, but Joseph is the closest you get to the title.

So as Jimmy Rollins goes will the Phillies go

Photo Courtesy of Renee Cendrowski. “So as Jimmy Rollins goes, so do the Phillies.” This statement said by many over the years, is as relevent this season as every other. Rollins some have said is on the decline and his best years are behind him. Rollins made a strong case to the contrary last season, finishing with 23 home runs after playing in 156 games. His batting average...

Phillies Notes and Roster Projections, 3/11

It is 3/11, and the Phillies have made a round of cuts, sending some players down already. Honestly the only mild surprise was Savery going so quick, but that's not even a real shock. Ryan Howard continued his hot start with another weekend homer. No shock there. Cole Hamels was...

Hooters ball girl picks up fair ball at Phillies-Rays game (video)

The Philadelphia Phillies have an interesting way to attract fans to their meaningless spring training games- having a Hooters ball girl in both foul territories to act ballgirls. What says Clearwater, Florida more than a Hooters ball girl?.Sounds like brilliant marketing; MLB exhibitions between 8th string players need something to spice them up. Of course, this can happen- a Hooters...

Phillies option five to minor league camp

The Phillies made five more roster moves Tuesday to drop their spring training roster down to 42 players. Tyler Cloyd, Tyson Gillies and Sebastian Valle were the biggest of the names optioned down to minor league camp.

An Updated View of the Phillies Roster, 3/12

Roy Halladay got rocked today. Like, rocked, rocked. He's only being clocked in the 84-85 range today too. Ok, enough awful-ness, let's run through some other topics in the blogosphere today: The Phillies cut five guys: Tyler Cloyd, Tyson Gillies, Sebastian Valle, Mauricio Robles, and B.J. Rosenberg. High Cheese had...

Tigers rough up Halladay, Phillies

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Ramon Santiago hit a grand slam and Don Kelly also homered off Roy Halladay, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 10-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Detroit starter Drew Smyly allowed three runs -- two earned -- and five hits in 3 1-3 innings, and Brayan Pena also went deep. Chase Utley hit his first homer of the spring for the Phillies. The...

Revere Catching On in Clearwater

Ruben Amaro Jr. went into this winter with many holes to fill in the Phils’ lineup. Specifically, the eighth inning setup man, third base, right, left and center field. Amaro filled a few holes by signing veterans such as Michael Young, Mike Adams and Delmon Young. Amaro’s boldest move, however, was using two trade
