The Orioles made it official and announced the signing of veteran outfielder Endy Chavez. The deal is reported to be worth $1.5M with another $500K in incentives. My enduring memory of Chavez was from a game I saw him play against the Astros in Montreal in 2003. He was manning center field for the Expos and made a couple of really nice plays defensively and stroked an RBI double to tie the game. (The Expos won in the bottom of the 10th as Jose Macias, of all people, hit a walk off homer.)He's not the fielder he was 9 years ago but he might just be the best defensive outfielder for the Orioles in 2012. His 6.6 UZR/150 score for the Rangers would have led all Oriole outfielders in 2011. His bat is not horrible and he is a decent, if not great, baserunner. As far as 4th outfielder candidates go, Matt Angle and Kyle Hudson are the only players on the roster who could fill that role and I don't think either is ready for that job in 2012 (if ever). Chavez fills a need and he is lik...

O's Get Endy Chavez; Ravens
On Sunday, the Baltimore Orioles signed veteran outfielder Endy Chavez to a one year deal. Right now, I would think he would fill in as a fourth outfielder – mainly playing left and center field – and perhaps a quick pinch runner off the bench. It looks like Dan Duquette found the fourth outfielder he wanted; however, Chavez is a nice fielder, solid player and certainly has...
Orioles sign OF Endy Chavez to 1-year deal
Free-agent outfielder Endy Chavez has agreed to a one-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles.
An experienced and dependable fill-in, Chavez batted .301 with five homers and 27 RBIs in 83 games for the AL champion Texas Rangers last season.
Dan Duquette, the Orioles' new executive vice president of baseball operations, says Chavez is a ''tremendous defender''...

Orioles Turned Down Braves' Offer For Adam Jones
The Braves made a run at Orioles outfielder Adam Jones earlier this month, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. Connolly reports that Atlanta offered Jair Jurrjens, Martin Prado, and a pitching prospect for Jones, but the O's "didn't bite," indicating how much they value their center fielder.
It was reported earlier this month that the Orioles and...
Projecting Tsuyoshi Wada
With newly acquired Japanese left-handed pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada likely being penciled into the Orioles' rotation for next year, it might not hurt to take a guess as to how he might do. Comparing NPB stats to Major League ones is tricky, but luckily Brian Cartwright (who does the Oliver projections) has looked into the issue:"I started with a list of 33 Japanese pitchers...
Orioles Sign A Collection Of Minor-Leaguers And An Economist
Small change, but the O's have agreed to minor-league contracts with:Right-handed pitcher Kyler* Newby; the soon-to-be 27 year-old sometimes starter (he's been shifted into that role a little bit in recent years) has spent most of his minor-league career in Double-A, where he's punched out some batters (8.3 K/9) but shown only decent control (3.0 BB/9) and a tendency...
Frustrated So Far...
Happy Christmas week to you all out there; as well, for all those celebrating Chanukah or any other holiday, the best to you also. As a fan of the Orioles, it’s been rather frustrating seeing some of the acquisitions and moves made so far. For the most part, they’ve been underwhelming. I’m not sure how much the organization has in their coffers, or the revenue that MASN...
