Jaybird's Jottings:
Each attendee at a SABR convention has their
favorite part but most would agree one of the best parts, if not the best, is
going to a game. It’s a tradition that dictates the dates of the convention.
For example, the 2011 convention in the Los Angeles area is waiting for
the MLB schedule to come out so they can choose between the Dodgers or Angels.
The SABR gang’s most thrilling game, at
least in recent memory was at Phoenix in 1999 when the Cardinals Jose Jimenez
tossed a no-hitter against the D-Backs.
Last night the SABRites were treated to a
good game, especially so for Giants fans, or if you just got sick of the
tomahawking.
San Francisco beat Atlanta at its own game,
the late inning comeback, which the Braves seem to do a lot more than luck or
residue would allow.
By the way, August 6 is a date etched in my
mind. Steve, my good friend and
fellow Giants fan, and I drove from Greensboro to Atlanta....
