Found June 17, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
On Tuesday, during the second game of a doubleheader against the first place Atlanta Braves, Mets prized pitching prospect Zack Wheeler will make his long anticipated major league debut. For Wheeler, he will feel unlike any other pitching prospect who who is making his first big league start. He’ll be wound up tighter than the guts of a baseball and those butterflies will be fluttering in his stomach. And then it all goes from surreal to real when that first pitch is fired toward home plate… Will he hear the pop of the leather or the crack of a bat? Before Wheeler there was that other much ballyhooed Mets debut… The one from that pitcher whose stuff wasn’t nearly as good as Wheeler’s – I’m talking about righthander Matt Harvey. He of course burst onto the scene with an 11 strikeout gem against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was the most strikeouts a pitcher has had in his debut since Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals whiffed 14 in June, 2010 against Pittsburgh. Harvey pitched 5.1 inn...

Top prospect Zack Wheeler ready for NY Mets debut

Zack Wheeler is excited about his big league debut with the New York Mets, especially since he'll be pitching not far from where he grew up. Wheeler is a native of suburban Atlanta and will have plenty of family and friends in the stands at Turner Field on Tuesday night, when he pitches the second game of a doubleheader against the Braves. The 23-year-old right-hander is one...

Zack Wheeler ready for Mets debut

Now that he's about to make his highly anticipated debut with the New York Mets, Zack Wheeler will rely on some advice he got from a minor league coach. Don't look up. ''I know it's going to be a big moment in my life,'' Wheeler said Monday, the day before he takes the mound against the first-place Atlanta Braves. ''There's probably going...

Zack Wheeler impresses in MLB debut, justifies optimism

ATLANTA -- When former MLB pitcher Steve Kline made his major league debut in April 1997, he elevated his eyes to take the lights and fans and noise of Oakland-Alemada County Stadium and the immediate effects were of the nauseating variety. Big league debuts are not easy. According to Kline's star pupil in Low-A ball, he threw up off the back of the mound. So as that star pupil...

Harvey Wheeler Day Doubleheader Game Preview

THE BIG DAY. Today is more than just Harvey day. It is more than Wheeler day. It is more than Wheeler debut day. It is Harvey and Wheeler Day! I would say chances of this happening again are rather slim but the Mets run into bad weather like I miss the subway (ie. a lot). Anyway, last night’s game got delayed until after 10 and the Mets ended up losing the game 2-1 after a 2 run...

Matt Harvey: The Mets’ Number One Badass

There’s really no other way to do this justice put to include the entire excerpt untouched, unmarred and unedited. We all know that Matt Harvey has ice water running through his veins. But I bet you didn’t know this: During his rookie season last year, Harvey was tired and decided to take a nap in a side room of the Mets’ clubhouse. One of baseball’s stupid decrees goes...

Top Prospect d’Arnaud Cleared To Begin Running Program

Anthony DiComo is reporting that Travis d’Arnaud has been cleared to begin a running program, after he saw doctors today. That’s great news, and now you can get your minds running about the possibility of Travis d’Arnaud catching Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler in September. D’arnaud should be heading to Port St. Lucie to get his rehab started. I’m sure all Mets fans are...

Dubbed ‘The Dark Knight of Gotham,’ Matt Harvey gives Mets fans a reason to visit Flushing

Fanning 13 and surrendering three runs over seven innings, New York flamethrower Matt Harvey helped lead the Mets to a 4-3 victory against the Braves on Tuesday in Atlanta. Battling mild tightness in his lower back earlier this month, its evident the 6-foot-4, 210 pound Harvey (6-1, 2.16 ERA) is completely healthy. “It’s one of those days where it was jumping out nice and I was...

Matt Harvey loses no-hitter on infield single

At least the New York Mets never fail to entertain. Mets starter Matt Harvey had a no-hitter going through the 6th, but in the 7th inning with no outs, Harvey needed a bit of help from his teammates, which he didn’t get. After Harvey fielded Jason Heyword’s slow roller, he flicked the ball to…..no one, as Lucas Duda, who is making his second start of the season at 1B,  failed...

You Mad, Bro? “Harvey the (nearly) Unhittable” Edition

From SB Nation’s “Talking Chop” Blog: “i would say at least the mets have their B lineup out there too but i can never really tell with them” “The Mets don’t have an A lineup” “No Valdespin “ So watch Wood throw a complete game 2 hitter here and then start the debate that we have 7 good starting pitchers to choose from” “The Mets don’t deserve Matt Harvey”...

Matt Harvey, Overwhelming

Matt Harvey didn’t throw a no-hitter against the Braves on Tuesday, but he did almost do that, not allowing a hit until the bottom of the seventh. It’s not that Harvey relied entirely on the strikeout — of the batters he faced, 13 didn’t whiff. But then, of the batters he faced, 13 did whiff, and Harvey’s season rate is verging on 30%. Matt Harvey was already good a year...

Angst: Part One

Certain people on this planet don't deserve Matt Harvey. Terry Collins is shaping up to be one of those people. Harvey was incredible through six innings for the Mets during Game 1 of today's doubleheader against Atlanta. Harvey's first hit was in the seventh when Jason Heyward chopped a ball towards first and Harvey snared it and flipped to first. Problem was that...

Mets Nip Braves 4-3

Matt Harvey pitched no-hit ball for six innings and fanned thirteen batters as the New York Mets held off a late Atlanta at Turner Field to nip the Braves, 4-3. It was just 15 hours after Freddie Freeman’s walk-off homer, that the Braves fell to the Mets in game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader. The Braves sent Alex Wood to the mound for his first big league start.  Wood was stellar...
