With spring training officially just under a month away, I thought now would be a good time to start a series of projections on what the 2012 Toronto Blue Jays might look like. Each day (don’t hold me to this), I will profile a 2012 Blue Jays starter, closing with a set of numbers based on my (usually positive) expectations. Today, we’ll be completing our look at the infield with a few words on shortstop Yunel Escobar. Boy, the folks in Atlanta sure like to cut their infielders loose at opportune times. Yunel Escobar shares a few things in common with his co-middle infielder on the Blue Jays, having both been developed on the same Braves squad, and both cut loose at the prime age of 27. But here they are, having found their way to the Blue Jays after a couple of well-timed trades by GM Alex Anthopoulos. When the team first acquired Escobar for an expendable Alex Gonzalez, we were supposedly getting a shortstop who had suddenly lost all of his gap power after a career-best 2009...

Blue Jays 3B Jose Bautista is Mr. Drug Test

Coming into the 2010 season, Blue Jays third baseman/outfielder Jose Bautista had played for parts of nine seasons with five different teams. His only season as a full-time player, he hit 16 home runs in 532 official at bats. He was known as your prototypical journeyman. After being cast aside by the Orioles, Devil Rays and Royals, Bautista was a Pittsburgh Pirate from 2005 until...

The Great Big 2012 Blue Jays Forecast Series, Part 6: Edwin Encarnacion

With spring training officially just under a month away, we continue with a series of projections on what the 2012 Toronto Blue Jays might look like. Each day (don’t hold me to this), I will profile a 2012 Blue Jays starter, closing with a set of numbers based on my (usually positive) expectations. Taking things (presumably) off the field, today’s subject of focus is the...

Brandon Morrow’s Left On Base Blues

Has it ever happened to you where one number — just one measly stat — throws your mind on a complete tangent, and results in you wasting a half hour of your life? This happens to me more often than I should admit. For instance, I was taking a stroll this morning through the FanGraphs leaderboards when one stat jumped out and lodged itself in my brain. Oh look, Brandon...

Player Profile #112: Adam Lind | 1B | TOR

Maybe I’m just a sucker, but I can’t get Adam Lind‘s 2009 season out of my head. Was it a fluke or will he one day get back to that level? Right now it looks like 2009 is the outlier, which isn’t good news for those who have invested in him in keeper leagues. Since 2009, his plate discipline has deteriorated to the point where he hasn’t posted an OBP...

2012 Minor League Players - Third Base

We finish our tour of the infield minor league assignments with a look at third base. This is not a position of strength in the Jays minor league system and you could see the same players in the same spots to start 2012 as played in 2011. Las Vegas Now that Brett Lawrie has passed through the sin city third base should be occupied by Kevin Howard. When Lawrie was injured last season...
