Injuries beginning to mount? Mike Pelfrey has now joined Jason Bay on the DL. The New York Mets seem to be stuck in a hole they can’t dig themselves out of. This is mostly due to three injuries in the past 48 hours and players who aren’t living up to their potential. Starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey’s latest injury may be the biggest blow to the Mets.  It looks like he’s headed for Tommy John surgery. Adam Rubin is reporting that Pelfrey has a partial UCL tear but the Mets have so far been denying any actual evidence of a tear. Partial or full tear, the big man may be done for the year. Pelfrey said he threw long toss after the game in which he had discomfort and felt fine. However, if the injury does exist, once you turn it up in a game it may rip. He said he was feeling the pain when not throwing. This is not good at all if he’s down for any length of time, especially with him looking like he figured out the problems with his sinker. The Mets will lose 200 innings which is big, whe...

Is This the End of Mike Pelfrey’s Tenure with the Mets?

As it is looking more and more like a certainty that Mike Pelfrey will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the 2012 season, it is time to wonder if the start that Pelfrey made on April 21 was the last time that we will see him in a New York Mets uniform. It seemed as if Pelfrey had figured things out through the early part of the year.  He looked good in his first three...

As Jason Bay and Mike Pelfrey hit the DL, Mets’ fans say so what?

Just as soon as the Mets put Jason Bay (ribs) and Mike Pelfrey (elbow) on the disabled list, the Mets go ahead and win two straight games over the Miami Marlins while also ruining the Jose Reyes homecoming in the process. Everything is right in the world, correct? Not so fast. I’d like to think that the the old saying “You don’t know how much you miss something until it’s...

Meet the Mess II - The Return of the Disabled List - Pelfrey Goes Too

A bad afternoon for the Mets has only gotten worse. Mike Pelfrey will join Jason Bay on the disabled list, after an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery this morning revealed inflammation in his right elbow. Pelfrey went to the hospital for a preliminary examination after experiencing a “grab” in his elbow at the start of each inning during his last start. He believed...

Bay Placed On DL, Lutz Recalled - Ike To Be Platooned?

It was announced earlier this afternoon that Jason Bay suffered a non-displaced fracture of his rib. Lutz, who was recalled from Buffalo can be used as a 3B or 1B. Chances of Lutz seeing the Hot Corner are slim, so makes one wonder if this means that Fearless Ike, after a dreadful start, might be put into a platoon situation with Lutz. Earlier this spring I wrote about the similarities of

Mets put RHP Pelfrey, LF Bay on disabled list

The New York Mets have put starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey and left fielder Jason Bay on the 15-day disabled list. The Mets made the moves before Tuesday night's game against Miami. Pelfrey is sidelined with inflammation in his right elbow. But Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says the team hasn't ruled out a torn ligament, and says Pelfrey will get a second opinion. ...

Bay has bruised ribs day-to-day

Photo by Michael BaronJason Bay was inches from making a spectacular play that would have saved two runs, instead it ended up being the turning point of the game for the Giants and to make things worse he left the game with a rib injury due to the play.X-rays were negative and he is day-to-day with bruised ribs.  It seems like every time there are signs of life from Bay he has...

Mets' Pelfrey likely to have season-ending surgery

New York Mets right-handed pitcher Mike Pelfrey will almost certainly undergo season-ending Tommy John ligament-replacement surgery, the Mets announced Thursday after their 3-2 win over the Marlins. Pelfrey, who will fly to Alabama Friday to meet with Dr. James Andrews, estimated there is a "99 percent" chance he will undergo the procedure on his right elbow. It has...

MIAMI BAY

Jason Bay to 15 day DL. Jason Bay cracked a rib on his left side in last night's game 2 diving for a ball he couldn't keep in his glove. Jason looked banged up on the lack of play but smoked a single up the middle in his next AB. The swing was one of the best Mets Blob has ever seen Jason put on a ball. The Blob knows that's not saying much. Well, for those of us who...

Mets continue to hurt, place Pelfrey on DL

Earlier today, the Mets placed left fielder Jason Bay on the 15-day DL. The hits keep on coming, as the team has also placed starter Mike Pelfrey on the DL with swelling in his right elbow. Pelfrey really hasn't lived up to the high expectations placed on him by the New York media after being drafted ninth overall in the 2005 draft. That, of course, was the loaded draft that...

Pelf to DL: This is just getting irritating now

The News: Mike Pelfrey MRI. Right elbow swelling. Will miss next start. Headed to DL. Robert Carson en route. — Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) April 24, 2012 Carson will be here for 3 games. Then replace with starter for Friday night in Colorado. — Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) April 24, 2012 My thoughts: SERIOUSLY? Jason Bay and Mike Pelfrey are both being sent to the disabled list...

GIFcap: Jason Bay Shot While Trying To Catch Ball + A Rangers Fan’s Epic Videobomb

The best part of any truly awesome defensive fail GIF is when the defensive player hits the ground like they just got shot by a sniper, and it’s only fitting that Jason Bay plays that role to perfection here, going down like a bag of bricks. Videobombing Rangers fan agrees

Mets rally in 9th to beat slumping Marlins

NEW YORK -- The New York Mets showed off an ability to absorb bad news throughout their three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins, capped by a walk-off win Thursday. But that success on the field didn't keep the bad news from coming off of it, as Mike Pelfrey announced after the Mets' 3-2 win Thursday, he was "99 percent" certain he would have season-ending Tommy...

The Enemy Looks Ridiculous

Well this just about brings it home, so to speak. Doesn't it? It promised to be an eventful day, but we just didn't know how eventful. We awoke to "Jose Reyes Day" with Jason Bay hitting the disabled list with a fractured rib which he accrued by flailing and missing a fly ball. This we sort of expected. But then we find out that Mike Pelfrey (the other boo twin...

Injury updates: Howard, Pence, Bay, Bray and Drew

Here's a running list of injury updates around the Major Leagues: – Phillies first baseman, Ryan Howard, hasn't been cleared to begin baseball activities according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.
