1. Jason Standridge Standridge went 31st overall in the 1997 draft. He made his big-league debut in 2001 and would notch 127 1/3 innings through 2007 with uninspiring results. Since then, Strandridge has pitched parts of five seasons in Japan, tallying a 3.12 ERA and a 2.27 strikeout-to-walk ratio. They're not quite Colby Lewis numbers, but not far from Ryan Vogelsong. Standridge always featured a lively fastball and a power curveball, though his command wavered. At age 33, Standridge would be one year older than Vogelsong, who reinvented himself despite similar concerns. —R.J. Anderson
2. Matt Murton From roughly 2007 through 2009, a pretty high percentage of the internet’s innumerable “Free [Player X]!” posts revolved around Matt Murton. In 2012, it takes some effort to remember why. The Red Sox selected the polished, right-handed-hitting college outfielder with the second supplemental pick in the 2003 draft, then traded him to the Cubs the following summer as part of the f...

Also, is there even a market for Shane Victorino? His down year has to be scaring off trade suitors.
We also give grades for the bullpen, offense, and starting pitching as we’ve hit the midway point...

The Departed: Ex-Phils Prospect Review
In recent seasons, the Phillies have parted ways with a considerable collection of well-regarded prospects in efforts to acquire established big league players. As time passes, those young players get closer to contributing for their new organization at the highest level and some are already doing so. As this year’s trade deadline approaches, here’s a glance at how many of those...
Moving Cole Hamels Could Save the Phillies Next Season
The end his here. If we the Phillies fans want to admit it or not, the chances of our beloved team getting into the playoffs would take a miracle. After 87 games the Phillies are 14 games back and 16 in the loss column to Washington. For any shot at a wildcard, the Fightin’s will need to finish the season 55-20. Take these numbers and then take a hard look at...
Olney: Phillies Will Make Push For Hamels
Buster Olney filled in as host of Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio this morning and spoke at length about the Cole Hamels situation. Olney has written about Hamels frequently this year, as he is a homegrown ace on a team built around pitching who may prove too costly for the Phillies as a result of other expensive personnel decisions.
The Phils and Hamels may be closing...
Phillies Jonathan Papelbon and Jimmy Rollins to Ruben Amaro: Don't Trade Hamels

It's not uncommon that you hear of other players speaking about their teammates after being traded. What is uncommon is hearing other players speaking about their teammates before being traded.
According to Todd Zolecki, a few players who spoke to reporters yesterday mentioned the recent rumors of their teammate Cole Hamels being potentially...
Charlie Manuel; a fighter and a winner
With the Philadelphia Phillies sitting in the basement of the NL East and 50 loses holding them down, questions abound about who’s to blame and who’s going to get the pink slip.
One person who shouldn’t be getting the boot is Manager Charlie Manuel. Ruben Amaro Jr. agrees as he was recently quoted as saying that the Phil’s skipper has done a “fantastic job”

Who’s to Blame for Phillies’ Disaster?
Philadelphia Phillies Manger Charlie Manuel The first half is over. Thankfully. The Phillies have had their worst start since 1997 and nothing this season has really gone to plan. The questions of why have been asked now for 3 months. They’re only intensifying now, after a 9-25 performance in the last 34 games. Who is [...]
Carlos Ruiz Uses Special Glove to Handle Dickey's Balls
Carlos Ruiz was selected to be the one to handle the catching duties for knuckleballer R.A. Dickey during the 2012 All-Star game. But to do so, Dickey brought along his own catchers' mitt for Ruiz to catch (pitctured above).
Knuckleballs are highly unpredicable. So much so that Tony LaRussa did not think that Buster Posey of the Giants could handle it. But Chooch could...
Audio: Phillies announcer Scott Franzke goes off on Scott Hairston
Scott Franzke is in his sixth year as the lead radio play by play voice of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Scott Hairston is an 11 year MLB veteran, now with the New York Mets after spending time with Arizona, San Diego, and Oakland. He's batting .249 this year with 12 HR and 34 RBIs.
Why does this matter to you?
Well, you see, 5 of those 12 HRs from Hairston have...
Gammons Says Cliff Lee Might Be An Option
Oh no, not this again.
Here's the story from Jon Lane:During his weekly Thursday spot for Sports Radio WIP in Philadelphia, MLB Network’s Peter Gammons suggested that the Phillies, due to their last-place standing and the changes in compensation for free agents, may explore getting into an area where they can sign pending FA Cole Hamels and trade Cliff Lee, who turns 34...
Clayton Kershaw to Cole Hamels: “You’d look good in Dodger blue”
Damon JacksonIt’s no surprise that the Philadelphia Phillies have been a mess in 2012. It’s also not a surprise that Cole Hamels is could be out of the City of Brotherly Love. Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, on the other hand, has been showing Hamels some brotherly love. The two had their lockers together for the All-Star game and told Hamels a very endearing statement.

Today we continue with our All-Star Break Grades. Including Kyle Kendrick and Joe Blanton, 15 Phillies pitchers have pitched out of the bullpen in 2012. For the purposes of these grades, we will lump them in with the starters and focus on the 13 others. As my newest colleague Eric Seidman indicated...
